  • BMW Australia will sell 16 Nürburgring anniversary editions across the M2 xDrive, M3 Competition Sedan, M4 Competition Coupe and M5 Sedan, split evenly between two paint finishes.
  • Recommended retail prices run from $155,800 for the M2 xDrive to $280,800 for the M5 Sedan, and each figure includes GST and luxury car tax but excludes on-road costs.
  • Production starts in January 2027 for the M3, M4 and M5 and in March 2027 for the M2, with the first Australian deliveries expected in Q2 2027.

What Each Edition Costs and How Many Australia Gets

BMW Australia has 16 anniversary editions to sell, and the way in is the M2 xDrive at $155,800. The M3 Competition Sedan costs $210,800, the M4 Competition Coupe $215,800 and the M5 Sedan $280,800. Every figure is a recommended retail price with GST and luxury car tax included and on-road costs left out, and BMW tells buyers to ask their nearest dealer for the full number.

The cars mark 100 years of the Nürburgring, the German circuit where BMW M tests its road cars. Production of the M3, M4 and M5 editions starts in January 2027, and the M2 follows in March 2027. BMW expects the first Australian deliveries in Q2 2027, so a buyer who signs now waits months for the keys.

Here is how the 16 cars divide up:

  • BMW M2 xDrive: 6 cars at $155,800
  • BMW M3 Competition Sedan M xDrive: 4 cars at $210,800
  • BMW M4 Competition Coupe M xDrive: 4 cars at $215,800
  • BMW M5 Sedan: 2 cars at $280,800

At those prices the whole allocation adds up to $3,202,800. A buyer who wanted one of each model would spend $863,200. The M3 and M4 sit only $5,000 apart, while the step from the M2 to the M3 is $55,000 and the M5 costs $125,000 more than the M2.

What Changes on the Cars

Buyers choose between two paint finishes. BMW Individual Nürburgring Green was developed for this edition, and the alternative is Black Sapphire metallic. Eight Australian cars wear each finish. The M5 split is known, one car in each paint. BMW has not published how the six M2, four M3 and four M4 cars divide between the finishes, so paint is the first question for a dealer.

Outside, each model carries a special roof design, a 100 badge, lettering that dates the circuit to 1927 and a silhouette of the track layout. The M3 and M4 add a grille surround in a contrasting shade and gloss black wheels trimmed in green. The M5 wheels also carry green trim, and the M2 adds black brake callipers and contrasting touches at the rear.

Inside, the M2, M3 and M5 share an M steering wheel with white and green contrast stitching, with a white marker at 12 o’clock on the M2 and M5 wheels. The M2 and M3 seats are two-tone Black and White with Green, Black and White stitching. The M2 also gets an edition cupholder cover, door sill trims and Nürburgring touches on the front headrests. The M5 has anniversary door sill trims and two-tone M seats.

BMW supplies these engine figures. The M2 xDrive has a 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline six making 353kW and 600Nm, an eight-speed M Steptronic gearbox and M xDrive all-wheel drive, with 0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds. BMW’s June launch of the first all-wheel-drive M2 in the UK quoted the same pace, 0 to 62mph in 3.7 seconds. The M3 Competition Sedan and M4 Competition Coupe use the same 3.0-litre engine at 390kW and 650Nm and reach 100km/h in 3.5 seconds. The M5 Sedan pairs a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor for 535kW and 1,000Nm of total system output, also with M xDrive, and matches the M3 and M4 at 3.5 seconds.

Why the Quoted Prices Already Include Luxury Car Tax

The Australian Taxation Office charges luxury car tax at 33 per cent, and only on the part of a car’s value above a threshold. For 2026-27 the threshold is $91,661 for fuel-efficient vehicles and $80,809 for other vehicles, up from $91,387 and $80,567 in 2025-26. Even the cheapest edition, the $155,800 M2 xDrive, sits far above both lines, and the other three sit further above them.

The ATO counts parts, accessories and attachments supplied with a car in its taxable value, and it changed the definition of a fuel-efficient vehicle on 1 July 2025. Which threshold applies to the plug-in hybrid M5 Sedan depends on that definition. For a buyer the practical point is simpler: BMW’s recommended prices already carry the tax, and on-road costs are the open item.

Australia’s Place in BMW M Sales

The Nürburgring opened in 1927, and its 20.832-kilometre Nordschleife has the nickname “Green Hell”. BMW test drivers have worked there from the 1960s onward, a BMW 2002 Ti won the first Nürburgring 24-hour race in 1970, and BMW M is now the circuit’s Official Automotive Partner with a Test Centre on site. BMW has tied the edition to a tagline: “Born on the Racetrack. Made for the Streets.”

Australia is a large market for M cars. Between January and September 2026, Australians bought 3,639 BMW M and M Performance vehicles, which is 20.5 per cent of BMW’s local sales. Across 2025, Australia took 5,837 M cars, which was 9.8 per cent of BMW M sales worldwide. Those nine months average about 404 M cars a month, so 16 editions equal under 4 per cent of a single month, or 0.44 per cent of the nine-month total.

For comparison, Caterham’s Nürburgring Seven is limited to 100 cars worldwide.

BMW itself has run other tight allocations. The M3 CS Handschalter goes to North America only, in very limited numbers.

What a Buyer Should Do Now

Call the nearest BMW Australia dealer before the allocation is spoken for. Ask whether the model and paint finish you want are still free, as the finish split of the M2, M3 and M4 cars is not public. Ask for a written drive-away figure that adds on-road costs to the recommended price, and for the deposit amount and its refund terms.

Timing is the second check. The M2 edition enters production in March 2027, two months after the other three, and BMW’s delivery estimate of Q2 2027 is an expectation rather than a date. Ask the dealer what happens to a deposit if production moves. Australia gets just 2 M5 Sedans, one per paint finish, so a buyer who wants that model has the fewest cars to chase.
