  • The Hyundai Kona Hybrid BLK Edition starts at $42,600 and the Tucson Hybrid BLK Edition at $51,000, both before delivery and on-road costs.
  • Both sit on the Elite Hybrid grade with black wheels and trim, Bose Premium Audio and a short list of paint choices, and the Kona also adds sat nav and a digital instrument cluster.
  • Hyundai has capped the Tucson BLK at 750 cars, with the Kona in showrooms from October and the Tucson following in November.

What the Black Package Adds Over the Elite Hybrid and What It Costs

Hyundai Motor Company Australia has put black-finished BLK Editions on the Kona Hybrid and Tucson Hybrid. The Kona BLK Edition costs from $42,600 and the Tucson BLK Edition from $51,000. Both are manufacturer’s list price (MLP), which leaves out delivery and on-road costs. Hyundai’s launch pricing carries no drive-away figure for either car, so the figure on your contract will land higher than those two numbers.

The Kona BLK Edition reaches showrooms from October and the Tucson BLK Edition follows in November. Both are hybrid and 2WD only, both are built on the Elite grade, and both come in a restricted range of paint choices picked to suit the black accents. The Tucson run stops at 750 cars.

“We’re excited to introduce BLK Editions, which bring a more distinctive and contemporary dark edge to our most popular SUV models,” said Gavin Donaldson, Chief Operating Officer of Hyundai Motor Company Australia.

Prices, Paint and the Costs on Top

The Tucson BLK costs $8,400 more than the Kona BLK ($51,000 less $42,600). Premium paint is an extra on both: $595 on the Kona and $750 on the Tucson. Tick that box and the Kona reaches $43,195 and the Tucson $51,750, still before delivery and on-road costs.

Hyundai builds its own drive-away estimate for the Tucson Hybrid from the list price, 12 months of registration, compulsory third party insurance, an estimated delivery charge and stamp duty, with luxury car tax added where it applies. Hyundai adds that the actual total differs from state to state. Ask the dealer for a written drive-away figure that names the BLK Edition, the paint and your postcode, and compare two dealers before you sign.

Kona BLK Edition, What the Extra Money Buys

The Kona BLK starts from the Elite Hybrid and adds 18-inch black alloy wheels, Bose Premium Audio, sat nav with live traffic through Bluelink and a digital instrument cluster. Outside, it gets a black window beltline, black window surrounds and pillars, a Shadow Grey front bumper garnish, silver front and rear skid plates and black Kona badging. Hyundai’s Kona Hybrid page lists the BLK in five exterior paint finishes.

The specification sheet also lists a 12.3-inch multimedia screen with DAB+ digital radio, a wireless phone charger, Bluelink with over-the-air updates, heated front seats, a leather-appointed interior, seven airbags including a front centre airbag, Smart Cruise Control with Stop and Go and blind-spot collision-avoidance assist. Hyundai flags the BLK-exclusive items on its own specification sheet, so ask the dealer to lay the Elite Hybrid sheet beside this one and name the Elite price, which turns the badge premium into a number.

Hyundai quotes 3.9 L/100 km for the Kona Hybrid and 407 litres of boot space, rising to 1,241 litres with the rear seats folded. The cabin and exterior changes are the heart of Hyundai’s pitch. “With black-finished wheels and exterior trim, paired with cabin enhancements, BLK Editions give customers a bold new expression of style while delivering the comfort, technology and practicality that defines the Hyundai SUV line-up,” Donaldson said.

Tucson BLK Edition and the 750 Car Cap

The Tucson BLK takes the same Elite Hybrid base. Hyundai lists the Tucson Hybrid range at 172 kW and 367 Nm from a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine with a six-speed automatic, a fuel figure of 5.3 L/100 km on the ADR 81/02 combined test and a towing rating of 1,900 kg braked and 750 kg unbraked. Those are the maker’s numbers for the range. The BLK is 2WD only, so confirm the towing rating for that car before you hitch a trailer to it.

The additions are 19-inch alloy wheels finished in black, Bose Premium Audio, a black window beltline, black front and rear bumper garnish and black Tucson badging. The equipment list includes a 12.3-inch multimedia screen, a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, a power tailgate, a wireless charger, heated front seats, seven airbags, Highway Driving Assist and Digital Key 2. The spare is a space-saver wheel rather than a full-size one.

At $51,000 the BLK sits $1,000 above the $50,000 line Hyundai uses for the Best Medium SUV under $50k award it promotes on the Tucson Hybrid. Hyundai states that the award does not apply to variants above $50,000 MLP, so the BLK does not carry it. The extra $8,400 over the Kona BLK buys the bigger car: Hyundai describes the Tucson as a five-seat mid-size SUV. Buyers who want to see how the maker treats the same idea overseas can look at the blacked-out Night trim on the US Tucson Hybrid.

Ask your dealer whether a BLK is on the floor, on order or still to be allocated before you pay a deposit.

The 7-Year Warranty Comes With Conditions

Every new Hyundai carries a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty from first registration. Passenger cars first registered from 1 June 2025 can extend that to seven years, unlimited kilometres, but only if two conditions hold for the whole period: every scheduled service is done at an authorised Hyundai dealer, and each one falls within the maker’s specified interval. Miss either and the extended cover ends from the date of the miss, leaving the standard five years. For most Hyundais the guide is a scheduled service every 12 months or 10,000 to 15,000 km after the free 1,500 km check, and the service passport has the exact schedule for your car.

The hybrid battery sits outside that seven-year term. The high-voltage battery carries its own cover of 8 years or 160,000 km, whichever comes first, from first registration. That runs a year longer than the seven-year vehicle cover but carries a distance cap, which a driver covering more than 20,000 km a year will reach first (160,000 km over 8 years). Separately, a passenger car used as a taxi, for hire, ride-share, courier or delivery, or in other commercial work gets five years or 130,000 km of vehicle cover instead of the seven-year term.

The dealer-service condition also reaches the BLK’s extra equipment. Hyundai covers the infotainment, audio and sat nav systems under the seven-year warranty when the car is serviced with Hyundai. Bluelink connected services come free for five years from first registration and stretch to seven where the servicing conditions are met. A dealer service also extends the included premium roadside support by 12 months and brings annual sat nav map updates, up to nine within 10 years of first registration. Servicing elsewhere stays an option for the standard warranty, provided the workshop issues an invoice showing the VIN, registration number, kilometres, service date and the type and grade of oil used. That route does not keep the seven-year cover.

The Tucson Runout Bonus and What to Ask the Dealer

Separate from the BLK, Hyundai is offering a $1,500 runout bonus on select Tucson Hybrids. It covers new stock and demonstrators purchased and delivered between 23 October and 31 December 2026, at participating dealers while stock lasts. The bonus comes off the driveaway price, cannot be taken as cash, and is closed to fleet, government and rental buyers. Hyundai’s page names the offer for “select” Tucson Hybrids and does not list the BLK. It also shows 2026 as the end year in the terms and 2027 in the banner above them, so get the end date in writing.

Before you commit, run through six checks with the dealer. Confirm which paint finishes the BLK comes in. Get a written drive-away price that names the BLK and any paint. Ask whether the $1,500 bonus applies to the BLK, and if it does, how it shows on the invoice. Ask for the Elite Hybrid drive-away price to measure the premium. Pin down the delivery date, with the Tucson due in November. Then plan your servicing, as the seventh year of warranty depends on every service being done at a Hyundai dealer.
