  • Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has opened UK orders for the seven-seat Caravelle people carrier from £41,960 before VAT, which is £53,703 on the road.
  • The new Edition trim starts at £49,960 before VAT (£63,303 on the road) and brings a panoramic sunroof, 18-inch black alloys, a factory sat-nav and Harman Kardon sound as standard.
  • Finance starts at £499 a month on a Solutions PCP for anyone ordering between 6 November 2026 and 5 January 2027, and customers should expect deliveries in early 2027.

What a Caravelle costs once VAT and on-the-road charges go on

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles publishes two price lists for the Caravelle, and the gap between them is large. The first is the basic recommended retail price before VAT. The second adds VAT and on-the-road costs, and it is the number a private buyer pays. The cheapest Caravelle, the Life in standard wheelbase with the 150PS 2.0 TDI and 7-speed DSG gearbox, costs £41,960 before VAT and £53,703 on the road.

That £11,743 difference breaks down in part. VAT at 20% on £41,960 comes to £8,392, which leaves £3,351 of on-the-road costs. Volkswagen does not itemise that remainder. The same £3,351 sits on top of VAT for every diesel in the range, so a quick rule for a diesel buyer is the before-VAT price times 1.2, plus £3,351.

The 245PS 1.5 eHybrid with 4MOTION behaves differently. It costs £3,500 more than the diesel before VAT on every trim and wheelbase, yet only £2,065 more on the road. The Life Standard eHybrid is £45,460 before VAT and £55,768 on the road, which leaves £1,216 of on-the-road costs after VAT against £3,351 for the diesel. Volkswagen does not say what makes up the difference, and it has not stated an electric range or CO2 figure for the eHybrid alongside these prices. Ask a Van Centre for both before comparing running costs.

The trim ladder from Life to Edition

Three trims make up the range: Life, Style and the new Edition. Seven seats come as standard, and a six-seat layout is optional. Each step up the ladder adds the same amount whichever engine is chosen.

Life to Style adds £5,000 before VAT, or £6,000 on the road. Style to Edition adds £3,000 before VAT, or £3,600 on the road. A buyer who goes from the cheapest Life to the Edition in standard wheelbase with the diesel pays £8,000 more before VAT and £9,600 more on the road: £49,960 against £41,960, and £63,303 against £53,703.

Long wheelbase costs £1,235 extra before VAT on every trim and both engines, which is £1,482 more on the road. The Style Long diesel is £48,195 before VAT and £61,185 on the road. At the top, the Edition Long eHybrid is £54,695 before VAT and £66,850 on the road. The Style Standard eHybrid sits at £50,460 and £61,768, and the Edition Standard eHybrid at £53,460 and £65,368.

What the Edition trim adds

The Edition is the visual upgrade. Outside, it has a panoramic sunroof in two tinted sections, gloss black Brüssel alloys in 18-inch size and LED rear lights with a darkened finish. Inside, the cabin turns dark: brushed dark silver inserts, a dark headliner, dark door pillar trim and ergoComfort seats covered in dark ArtVelours microfleece. The factory sat-nav and the Harman Kardon sound system come as standard too.

A black roof is available on the Edition only. The wider palette has two solid shades, Candy White and Pure Grey, eight metallic finishes and three two-tone combinations.

A bigger screen, six USB-C sockets and a massage seat

The redesign reaches the front end and the dashboard. Volkswagen says the new VW Bus headlights are larger and more powerful than before, and the bumper has been reshaped to improve air intake for the air conditioning and ventilation. Volkswagen showed the changes in the June Caravelle reveal, when UK prices were still to come.

Inside, the dash panel carries topstitching, and a new free-standing 12.9-inch infotainment screen sits beside a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit display. Two USB-C points serve the front and four USB-C sockets serve the passenger compartment, six in all, and Volkswagen says charging speeds are higher than before. The front passenger seat gets memory and massage functions for the first time, though only with the optional AGR ErgoComfort seats.

The finance sums and the extra £440 a year

The maker advertises monthly payments from £499 on a Solutions Personal Contract Plan and from £449 on Business Contract Hire. Both offers cover orders placed between 6 November 2026 and 5 January 2027 at a participating Van Centre. Buyers must be 18 or over, and approval is subject to status.

The £499 figure comes with a deposit. On the Style Standard 150PS TDI, a 48-month plan at 10,000 miles a year has 47 payments of £499.00, a Volkswagen deposit contribution of £2,500.00 and a customer deposit of £9,823.56. Against the £59,703.00 on-the-road cash price, the total amount of credit is £47,379.44, the optional final payment is £31,483.80 and the total payable is £67,270.36, including a £10.00 option to purchase fee. The rate of interest is 4.88% and the representative APR is 4.9%. If the buyer pays the optional final payment and keeps the car, the total payable is £7,567.36 above the cash price, which covers the interest and the £10.00 fee.

The Edition Standard 150PS TDI carries the same £499.00 payments. Its cash price is £63,303.00, which is £3,600 more than the Style, yet the customer deposit falls to £9,811.98, £11.58 lower, while Volkswagen’s deposit contribution rises to £4,750.00. The credit comes to £48,741.02, the optional final payment to £33,130.80 and the total payable to £71,155.78, or £7,852.78 above the cash price on the same basis. Interest rate and APR match the Style example.

The contract hire example is for business users only and offers no ownership option. A 36-month agreement at 10,000 miles a year on the Life Standard 245PS eHybrid asks for a customer initial rental of £2,694.00, equal to six payments of £449.00, then 35 payments of £449.00. Added up, that is £18,409 before VAT over three years.

The price list also triggers a tax rule worth checking. GOV.UK sets an extra £440 a year on any car or motorhome whose list price tops £40,000, payable for five years from the second time the vehicle is taxed. The £50,000 threshold applies to electric cars only, so the eHybrid is measured against the £40,000 line. The list price is the published price before first registration and before any discounts. Every Caravelle on-the-road price is above £53,000, and even the cheapest price before VAT, £41,960, clears £40,000. A Caravelle taxed as a car could cost £2,200 over five years on top of the standard rate. GOV.UK tells buyers to check the list price with the dealer, and the frozen £40,000 threshold explains how the same supplement applies to owners of existing cars.

Caravelle replaces Multivan on UK badges

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has revived the Caravelle name, citing the trust buyers already place in it. The people carrier that UK buyers knew as the Multivan now wears the Caravelle badge. Volkswagen will still produce the vehicle under the Multivan name for the German market.
