Toyota has taken the GR Corolla as far as it will go without a race license. The 2026 GRMN Corolla lands late this summer with a starting price of $64,360, a global production cap of just 730 units, and a spec sheet built from lessons learned on the Nürburgring and in Japan’s Super Taikyu endurance series.

More Torque, Manual Only, and Nürburgring-Tuned Suspension

Under the hood sits the familiar G16E-GTS 1.6-liter three-cylinder turbo, but Toyota has pushed peak torque up to 302 lb-ft, with the biggest gains focused in the 4,000-4,600 rpm range, the band Toyota’s engineers targeted as the one that counts most when accelerating out of a corner. Output holds at 300 horsepower, routed through a six-speed manual with rev-matching and Toyota’s GR-FOUR all-wheel-drive system, tuned specifically for this car to send more torque rearward at high speed and sharpen stability the instant a driver turns the wheel.

The suspension is exclusive to the GRMN as well: inverted monotube shocks up front, upright monotubes in back, both fitted with internal rebound springs and stroke lengths tuned to the millimeter after repeated Nürburgring test runs. Toyota says the circuit exposed problems that never showed up on a conventional test track, and the development team worked through them one at a time rather than settling for a compromise. High-grip Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, uprated brakes and a reworked electric power steering program that holds its assistance under hard cornering complete the chassis changes.

Carbon Fiber Body Panels and No Rear Seats

Toyota cut mass from every panel it could reach. The hood, front fenders, front side spoilers and rear wing are all carbon fiber, and the wing itself has a five-step angle adjustment mechanism that Toyota’s test drivers set in one-degree increments at the Nürburgring to find the right balance of downforce and drag. The rear seats are gone entirely, cutting the GRMN Corolla to a strict two-seater. Even with that extra aerodynamic hardware bolted on, the finished car comes in 66 pounds lighter than the standard GR Corolla, and the carbon panels concentrate that saving low and toward the front axle rather than spreading it evenly through the body.

An intercooler spray system and a cool-air duct carried over from the 2026 GR Corolla help the engine hold its output through repeated hard runs rather than pulling back power as it heats up, a detail Toyota traces directly to its hydrogen-engine Corolla racing in Super Taikyu.

A Cockpit Built Around One Job

Inside, semi-bucket sport seats trimmed in black and red Brin Naub suede and synthetic leather replace the standard chairs, and a flocked instrument panel and front pillar trim cut glare for the driver. A carbon ornament made at Toyota’s Motomachi plant sits on the passenger side, next to a dash pad carrying the signature of Morizo, the alter ego of Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda who set the development brief for the car. Each GRMN Corolla also carries its own serial number plate, and red accents on the door trim and shift knob mark it apart from a standard GR Corolla’s cabin.

Everyday Tech Behind the Track Focus

For a car built around one purpose, the GRMN Corolla still carries the same connectivity as the rest of the Corolla lineup. An 8-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen comes standard with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, paired with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster that keeps boost pressure, torque delivery and other performance readouts in the driver’s direct line of sight. Toyota also bundles in trial periods for its connected services, including up to ten years of Safety Connect and Service Connect, a one-year Remote Connect trial and a 30-day, 3-gigabyte Wi-Fi Connect trial, all dependent on 4G network coverage.

Price, Availability and What’s Included

Toyota will build the GRMN Corolla at its Motomachi plant in Japan, primarily for North America, Japan and Australia, with US cars arriving late this summer in either Zero Gravity or Gravel paint. The $64,360 MSRP includes a one-year membership to the National Auto Sport Association and a complimentary high-performance driving event with professional instruction, a package Toyota is pitching as part of the ownership experience rather than an optional extra. Standard safety equipment carries over from the wider Corolla lineup, including Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 with pre-collision braking, lane tracing assist and automatic high beams.

How the Math Compares to a Civic Type R

At $64,360, the GRMN Corolla costs roughly $16,000 more than a 2026 Honda Civic Type R, which starts at $48,090 with destination included, though the two cars are aimed at different buyers. The Civic Type R is front-wheel drive and seats four; the GRMN Corolla drops two seats, adds all-wheel drive and caps production at 730 cars worldwide, a scarcity play closer to a limited-run performance special than a mainstream hot hatch. For Toyota, the GRMN badge has always meant the most extreme version of whatever it’s attached to, and on paper this Corolla earns that reputation through torque, a lighter curb figure and a suspension tuned lap after lap on the world’s most demanding circuit rather than through headline horsepower alone.
