Genesis has revealed the GV90, its first full-size flagship SUV, with a combined 657 horsepower, a 123.5kWh battery and an estimated 310 miles of range on a single charge. The automaker unveiled the seven-seat SUV in San Francisco on August 19, splitting the range into two versions: the standard GV90 with regular swing doors and the GV90 Neolun, which trades the rear doors for a hidden B-pillar design that opens like a pair of coach doors.

Genesis has not released US pricing or an on-sale date yet, so buyers will need to wait before they can order one. What the automaker has confirmed is a spec sheet built to sit above the GV80 and GV70 in the lineup, with a 350kW fast charger able to take the battery from 10 to 80 percent in 22 minutes. Genesis built the GV90 on the NEOLUN concept it first showed in 2024, and the production version keeps most of that car’s design language while adding the hardware needed for a daily driver.

A Hidden Door That Opens Like a Stage Curtain

The headline feature on the GV90 Neolun is the Neolun Arch Gate, a set of rear doors with no visible B-pillar between them and the fronts. Genesis built a dual-motion hinge that slides each rear door outward before rotating it open, letting the front and rear doors swing apart to face each other. The company says it developed a new body structure to keep the car safe without a conventional B-pillar, using dual high-strength steel beams where the doors meet the body and a reinforced roll cage 1.5 times thicker than on a standard Genesis body shell.

The standard GV90 skips the party trick and keeps regular swing doors with flush glass, aimed at buyers who want the platform without the added mechanical complexity. Genesis says the roll cage protecting the cabin is 1.5 times thicker than on its other models, with high-strength steel tubes and structural foam packed into the pillars to match the crash protection of a car with a normal B-pillar.

Power, Range and Charging Numbers

The GV90 runs on the eMP platform Genesis built specifically for its flagship models, with a front motor rated at 322 horsepower and a rear motor at 335 horsepower, for a combined 657 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. Genesis paired that output with a dual Electronic Limited Slip Differential on both axles, a first for a Hyundai Motor Group vehicle, plus a multi-chamber air suspension and rear-wheel steering that turns up to five degrees to shrink the turning radius of a car that stretches 208.1 inches long.

The 123.5kWh battery is the largest Hyundai Motor Group has fitted to any of its electric vehicles, and Genesis quotes an estimated 310-mile range for the seven-seat GV90 based on internal testing rather than an EPA figure. Genesis also added Thermal Runaway Protection to slow the spread of heat between battery cells and a cloud-based monitoring system that flags battery problems before a driver notices anything wrong.

Massage Seats, a Folding Screen and No Start Button

Genesis dropped the ignition button entirely on the GV90. Pull the door handle and the car powers on; once the door shuts, the gear selector rotates into position and the car starts when the driver presses the brake pedal. The center screen is a 23.6-inch OLED display in normal use that rises 90mm and grows to 24.6 inches when the car is parked, and a 25-inch head-up display replaces the traditional instrument cluster.

The cabin runs on Pleos Connect, the Hyundai Motor Group infotainment platform built on Android Automotive, with a generative AI assistant called Gleo AI that handles voice commands and searches. A Bang & Olufsen system with 25 speakers and Dolby Atmos pipes sound through the cabin, and the front seats include 15 individual air cells for a massage function Genesis says goes beyond anything it has offered before. A metal-coated heated windshield, the first of its kind at Hyundai Motor Group, clears frost without running the climate system.

Twelve Airbags Including a World-First Roof Airbag

Genesis fitted the GV90 with 12 airbags, including a roof airbag designed to cover the glass roof and stop occupants from being thrown out of the car in a rollover. The front and rear passenger seats get dual-depth airbags that adjust based on how someone is sitting, and the curtain airbags now reach the third row. An in-cabin monitoring system tracks who is sitting where and adjusts airbag and seatbelt behavior accordingly, and it will flag a passenger who is not wearing a seatbelt correctly.

The body uses a cast and extruded aluminum structure to reduce mass while adding stiffness, and a front-end deflector is built to redirect the motor and subframe under the car in a frontal crash rather than into the battery pack. Genesis also added ultra-high-strength steel around the sides of the car to protect the battery pack from a side impact, along with a slider structure ahead of the pack designed to push heavy components away from it in a crash.

Design, Colors and What Comes Next

Genesis designed the exterior around the shape of a moon jar, a traditional Korean porcelain vessel known for its rounded, minimal form. The front end uses Micro Lens Array headlamps built with laser-engraving to blend the lighting into the bodywork, and the lower bumper carries a three-dimensional chrome grille pattern. At the back, Genesis skipped a rear spoiler and any extra trim lines in favor of flush taillights and simple lettering across the tailgate. The GV90 rides on 24-inch forged wheels as standard and comes in 16 exterior colors, including 13 gloss finishes and three matte options.

Alongside the standard lineup, Genesis unveiled the GV90 Neolun First Edition, a four-seat Executive Suite configuration limited to buyers on Genesis’s VIP list. It comes in three two-tone paint combinations, with wool cashmere trim, logo engraving on the door sills and headrests, and a real wood floor in the second row with a radiant heating system built into it, inspired by traditional Korean underfloor heating. The Executive Suite also adds a partition between the second row and the cargo area and roll-up blinds for privacy on the rear windows.

Buyers who want a GV90 will need to keep watching Genesis for pricing and a US delivery window, as neither has been confirmed. The GV90 arrives as the brand’s most expensive and best-equipped model to date, aimed at buyers cross-shopping the Cadillac Escalade IQ, the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV and other three-row luxury electric SUVs. Genesis says it has become the fastest luxury brand to reach a million total sales in under eight years, and the GV90 is the clearest sign yet of where the brand wants to go next.
