2027 Porsche Taycan Gains Tesla-Style Charging and a Bigger Standard Battery

The 2027 Porsche Taycan brings two changes that owners will feel on a daily basis. Every version now gets a native Tesla-style fast-charging port for easier public charging, and the larger 105 kWh Performance Battery Plus becomes standard across the entire range. Porsche has paired those practical upgrades with a new E-Shift system that adds virtual gears and a louder soundtrack, plus an all-new infotainment setup with AI-supported voice control.

Order books are open now, with deliveries beginning in the fall of 2026. Pricing starts at $111,900 for the rear-wheel-drive Taycan, before a $2,350 delivery, processing and handling fee. Here is what is actually new, and why the charging and battery changes are the ones most buyers should care about.

A Native Tesla-Style Charging Port for Easier Public Charging

The headline practical change is hidden behind the charge flap. For 2027, the passenger-side DC fast-charging port is now native NACS, the connector standard popularized by Tesla and adopted across most of the US charging industry. That means Taycan drivers can plug into a growing number of NACS fast chargers, including Tesla Supercharger stalls that are open to other brands, without juggling an adapter at every stop.

The driver-side AC port stays on the familiar J1772 standard, so home and workplace charging on a Level 2 wallbox works exactly as before. Splitting the two duties between the two ports keeps everyday AC charging simple while modernizing the DC fast-charging experience that matters most on a road trip. For anyone who has spent time hunting for a compatible plug at a public charger, removing that friction is the kind of change that quietly improves ownership.

The Bigger Battery Is Now Standard

Porsche has made the 105 kWh Performance Battery Plus standard on every 2027 Taycan variant. Previously the larger pack was an option on entry models, which meant the most affordable Taycans shipped with a smaller battery and less range. Making the bigger pack the baseline removes a decision point from the order sheet and lifts the floor on how far the cheapest Taycan can travel between charges.

Combined with the Taycan’s already strong fast-charging hardware, a standard large battery makes the entry car a more credible long-distance EV rather than a city-focused one. Buyers no longer have to spend up to reach the range figures that made the Taycan competitive in the first place, which changes the value calculation at the bottom of the lineup.

E-Shift Adds Virtual Gears and a Louder Soundtrack

The change Porsche led its announcement with is E-Shift, a new option available across all Taycan models. It layers virtual gear changes onto the electric drivetrain, complete with a perceptible shift motion, a reinterpreted Porsche Electric Sport Sound and a virtual rev counter. Paddles on the GT Sport steering wheel let drivers row through eight simulated gears, and the whole system is switched on through a separate mode control on the wheel.

None of this makes the Taycan quicker, and Porsche is clear that it is about engagement rather than performance. The idea is to give drivers who miss the rhythm of shifting and the rise and fall of engine noise something closer to that experience in a car that is otherwise near-silent. It can be left switched off entirely for buyers who prefer the seamless surge that drew them to an EV in the first place.

“By introducing comprehensive innovations for the model year change, we are strengthening the Taycan in all relevant areas: the latest models offer more emotive driving experience and more intuitive and customizable operation,” says Kevin Giek, Head of the Taycan model line.

A New Infotainment System With AI Voice Control

The 2027 cars also get a new generation of infotainment software built around an operating concept Porsche calls Digital Interaction. It brings a minimalist design, a 3D model of the car shown in its actual paint color, freely configurable widgets and improved voice control through an AI-supported Voice Pilot. Drivers can hold a natural conversation with the system, run Google-supported point-of-interest searches and ask follow-up questions without repeating the wake phrase each time. Voice commands now stretch to opening the charge flap, and there is a spoken owner’s manual with how-to guides built in.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration has been expanded, and the navigation system adds precise online route calculation, 3D building displays and an improved Charging Planner. Software updates for the infotainment system can now be downloaded fully over the air and installed in the background once the owner confirms. A new App Center lets customers add Porsche and third-party apps directly in the car across categories such as streaming, navigation, parking and charging.

Smaller touches round things out. The wireless charging tray now supports magnetic ring technology and up to 25 watts, which Porsche says charges a phone about 1.5 times faster than before. A new Themes app lets owners coordinate display colors with the interior ambient lighting and the car’s exterior shade. The Paint to Sample catalog has grown by 16 colors to 153 total, reviving names such as Shark Blue and Python Green alongside new options like Loretta Purple and Rose Red.

Pricing, Availability and How It Stacks Up

The 2027 Taycan range is available to order now, with first deliveries due in the fall of 2026. The rear-wheel-drive Taycan opens the lineup at $111,900 plus the $2,350 delivery fee, and prices climb from there through the dual-motor 4S, GTS, Turbo and the range-topping Turbo GT. Porsche notes the figures exclude taxes, title, registration and any optional or regionally required equipment.

At that price the Taycan continues to square off against the closely related Audi e-tron GT, the Lucid Air and the Tesla Model S, along with newer luxury electric sedans entering the segment. The 2027 updates do not reset that competitive picture so much as patch its weak spots: standard long range, simpler public fast charging and a cabin that finally matches rivals on software. The E-Shift novelty will grab attention, but the charging and battery changes are the ones that make the everyday case for a Taycan stronger.
