INEOS Automotive has launched the Grenadier Trialmaster X, a new flagship specification that brings together the most rugged off-road kit in the Grenadier range with the interior refinement usually reserved for the comfort-focused Fieldmaster variant. Available to order now, the Trialmaster X is priced at £75,195 for the Station Wagon and £75,010 for the Quartermaster pick-up.

For buyers who have long wanted the full Grenadier package without having to pick through an options list, this is the answer. INEOS has essentially curated the definitive specification, combining serious off-road hardware with day-to-day livability in a single trim level.

What Makes It Different from the Standard Trialmaster

The standard Grenadier Trialmaster is already one of the most capable off-road vehicles available from a mainstream manufacturer. The Trialmaster X takes that foundation and adds the comfort and convenience features of the Fieldmaster, which previously appealed to buyers who prioritised interior quality over outright trail-bashing credentials.

The result is a specification that works as well on a long motorway drive to the Scottish Highlands as it does on the terrain you find when you get there. Heated front seats, black or two-tone grey and black leather upholstery, carpet floor mats and a premium sound system are all standard, alongside the full suite of Trialmaster off-road hardware.

Off-Road Credentials

The Trialmaster X retains everything that makes the Grenadier genuinely capable away from tarmac. Front and rear locking differentials are standard, as are BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3 tyres fitted to 17-inch alloy wheels. The KO3 is widely regarded as one of the best all-terrain tyres on the market, offering strong performance on mud and loose surfaces without becoming excessively noisy on the motorway.

A raised air intake is fitted as standard, which is essential for river crossings and deep water driving. Safari windows and privacy glass are also included, as is a spare wheel lockable storage box, which adds both security and practicality when using the vehicle as a base for extended expeditions.

The integrated front winch with a 5.5-tonne capacity is standard on Trialmaster X, a significant addition given that a standalone winch can cost several thousand pounds to purchase and install. Combined with the 7-tonne gross train weight, this specification is genuinely prepared for serious use.

Interior and Comfort

Where the Trialmaster X breaks from traditional off-road convention is in its interior. The cabin gets heated front seats, a premium sound system and carpet floor mats as standard. The upholstery comes in a choice of black or two-tone grey and black leather, and the overall ambiance is a step above what you would expect from a vehicle built primarily for rough terrain.

INEOS has also fitted a contrast roof as standard, available in either Inky Black or Scottish White, which adds a visual distinction that marks the Trialmaster X out from the rest of the Grenadier range.

Colour Options

The Trialmaster X is finished in Scottish White as standard, with three additional colours available: Devil Red, Magic Mushroom and Donny Grey. The colour range is distinctively INEOS in character, reflecting the brand’s positioning as something outside the mainstream premium SUV world.

The Price and What You Get for It

At £75,195 for the Station Wagon and £75,010 for the Quartermaster, the Trialmaster X sits at the top of the Grenadier range. In the context of what it delivers, the pricing is competitive. A Defender V8 with comparable specification will cost considerably more, and vehicles such as the Mercedes-Benz G-Class are in a different price bracket entirely.

The key proposition of the Trialmaster X is that it removes the need to spend significant time and money on the options list. The winch alone would typically add thousands to the cost of a standard Trialmaster, and the combination of off-road hardware and interior comfort means buyers are not paying separately for two different things.

The reference to customer feedback is telling. INEOS has clearly heard from buyers who loved the Grenadier’s capability but wanted the kind of interior finish that the Fieldmaster offered, without having to sacrifice off-road hardware. The Trialmaster X is the direct response.

Is the Grenadier Right for You?

The Grenadier occupies a specific position in the market. It is not a lifestyle SUV dressed up in rugged clothing. It is a purpose-built off-road vehicle with a ladder-frame chassis, solid axles and a powertrain sourced from BMW. If your driving involves genuinely challenging terrain, towing heavy loads or covering significant distances in remote locations, it is one of very few vehicles built to handle all of those demands without compromise.

The Trialmaster X makes the most compelling case for the Grenadier as a single purchase for buyers who would otherwise need to spend considerable time and money configuring a standard model. Everything you could reasonably want is already included.

The Quartermaster pick-up body style adds further practicality for those who need to carry equipment in an open load bed, and at £75,010 it is actually slightly cheaper than the Station Wagon, making it a strong choice for working or expedition use.
