Disproving the premise that a car is just a car, the Volvo EX30 has been named the winner of the Most Revolutionary Transport category in the Wallpaper* Smart Space Awards.

The leading international design authority bestows the annual honours to give “global recognition for ideas that inspire and technology that lasts”. The Most Revolutionary Transport category embraces new technologies, services and products designed to help people move from A to B in more timely, innovative or convenient ways.

Announcing the EX30’s success, Bill Price, Wallpaper* Editor in Chief, said: “The EX30 is a fantastic piece of automotive design, with clear and welcome influences from product design and contemporary furniture, and great use of sustainably sourced materials. It also drives beautifully and has an excellent range.”

Nicole Melillo Shaw, Volvo Car UK Managing Director, said: “Wallpaper* and its writers and commentators are internationally respected for their understanding of what makes great design. That makes this award of special value to everyone at Volvo Cars who has helped create a product that pushes boundaries in every aspect, not least in being the most sustainable car we’ve yet produced.”

The EX30 small SUV has enjoyed wide acclaim since its launch in June 2023, amassing more than 10 major awards. Its honours list includes receiving Car of the Year titles from The Sun, Carwow and Electrifying.com, and being named World Urban Car in the World Car Awards. It has also won multiple category awards for small SUVs and family cars, and it was a ‘Best of the Best’ winner in the 2024 Red Dot Design Awards.

Efficient performance and whole-life sustainability were guiding principles for the development of the EX30, helping the model achieve the smallest carbon footprint of any Volvo car yet manufactured. Its battery electric powertrain provides a driving range of up to 296 miles, while recharging from 10 to 80% capacity takes from just 26 minutes when using a DC power supply.
