  • Private buyers of a new OMODA E5 or JAECOO E5 can take a free Octopus Energy home charger worth up to £1,029 or £1,000 of public charging credit.
  • Orders count from 9 October 2026 to 31 March 2027, and the dealer must pass the referral to Octopus by 30 April 2027.
  • The OMODA E5 starts at £33,065 on the road and the JAECOO E5 at £27,505, with maker-quoted ranges of up to 267 and 248 miles.

Which Is Worth More to You, the Home Charger or the Voucher?

OMODA&JAECOO UK has put a choice in front of private buyers of the all-electric OMODA E5 and JAECOO E5. Take a free Octopus Energy home charger with standard installation, worth up to £1,029, or take £1,000 of public charging credit through Octopus Electroverse. Buyers pick one of the two, and the offer runs until 31 March 2027.

Set against the sticker, the saving is modest. The charger equals 3.1 percent of the £33,065 OMODA E5 starting price and 3.7 percent of the £27,505 JAECOO E5 starting price. On paper the charger is worth up to £29 more than the credit, so the decision rests on where the car will spend its nights.

Victor Zhang, Managing Director of OMODA&JAECOO UK, puts the logic in one line: “Choosing an electric car is only one part of moving to EV ownership; how you charge it is just as important.”

How Each Option Reaches You

The dealer starts the process. At purchase the retailer refers the buyer to Octopus Energy and selects the option the buyer has chosen.

Buyers who pick the charger get an email from Octopus Energy with a link to order it online. The charger is the Octopus Charge (untethered), Octopus’s own smart EV charger, and a standard installation costs the buyer nothing. A different Octopus charger, or a home that needs a non-standard installation, leaves the buyer paying the difference between £1,029 and the quoted price. A quote of £1,229, for example, would leave £200 to pay.

Buyers who pick the credit get a one-time voucher code by email within 14 days. Once the code is entered in the Octopus Electroverse app, the full £1,000 lands in the account instantly and is ready for use on public chargers within that app. The partners put Electroverse’s reach at more than 1.4 million public chargers worldwide.

Who Should Take the Charger and Who the Credit

A driveway or garage points to the charger. Octopus Energy claims drivers can save up to 85 percent by charging at home, which is the best case. Zapmap’s September index of what drivers pay at public chargers puts rapid and ultra-rapid units at 79p a kWh on average and standard and fast units at 54p. Zapmap puts the capped home rate at around 26p a kWh. A full 61 kWh fill, the OMODA E5 battery size, costs £15.86 at 26p and £48.19 at 79p.

Drivers on off-peak EV tariffs pay less again. Dedicated tariffs sit outside the price cap, and Zapmap puts an off-peak rate at around 8.9p a kWh, which makes a full 61 kWh fill about £5.43.

No off-street parking points to the credit. At Zapmap’s 79p average, £1,000 buys about 1,265 kWh, which is about 20 full OMODA E5 batteries from empty or roughly 4,170 miles at the 24p a mile Zapmap works out for rapid charging. The price at the charger a driver actually uses will differ from the average, so treat the sums as a guide. The voucher is spent once, while a charger stays on the wall.

What the Two Cars Offer

The OMODA E5 pairs a 61 kWh battery with a 211 PS electric motor and 288 Nm of torque. The maker quotes a WLTP combined range of up to 267 miles and 0 to 62mph in 7.2 seconds. It is a five-seat SUV, priced from £33,065 on the road in Knight trim and £34,565 in Noble, a £1,500 step.

The JAECOO E5 has a 60.9 kWh battery and a 207 PS motor. The maker quotes a WLTP combined range of up to 248 miles and a 30 to 80 percent charge in around 27 minutes on a rapid DC charger. Pet-friendly and camping modes come with it. Prices start at £27,505 on the road in Pure trim and £30,505 in Luxury, a £3,000 step. The cheapest JAECOO E5 undercuts the cheapest OMODA E5 by £5,560.

Every new OMODA and JAECOO carries a seven-year/100,000-mile warranty and an eight-year/100,000-mile battery warranty. Prices are correct as of October 2026.

The Pump Prices Behind the Offer

Fuel is the pressure on buyers. RAC figures put diesel above £2 a litre for the first time ever at the start of October, with unleaded nudging £1.75 a litre, its highest in more than four years. The RAC has 2026 on course to be the second most expensive year on record for filling up, behind only 2022. In its October survey of 1,208 drivers, 65 percent said they were cutting back on other spending to pay for fuel, up from 61 percent in April. Home charging gains from the VAT cut on home electricity made at the start of October, which lowers the electricity bill for drivers who charge on their own driveway.

Alex Schoch, Director of Electrification at Octopus Energy, says: “With fossil fuel prices hitting record highs, going electric gives drivers real savings and peace of mind from the pump price rollercoaster.” Zhang adds: “With pump prices as unpredictable as they’ve been this year, that’s real money back in drivers’ pockets.”

The Small Print That Decides It

Three conditions apply, set by Octopus Energy. The order goes through a participating OMODA&JAECOO UK retailer between 00:01 on 9 October 2026 and 31 March 2027. The retailer makes the referral to Octopus between 00:01 on 9 October 2026 and 23:59 on 30 April 2027. The buyer registers the car at their home address, a condition that applies where the charger is to be installed.

Orders placed from 9 October onwards already count, and the referral deadline leaves 30 days after the last order date. The terms name the qualifying cars as the OMODA 5 EV and the JAECOO 5 EV, so buyers should check the paperwork names the E5 they are ordering. The 31 March date is the maker’s. Gates OMODA | JAECOO lists the order window as closing on 6 January 2027, so confirm the end date with the retailer before relying on either. Buyers should also ask the retailer to confirm the option recorded and the date the referral reaches Octopus. Terms and conditions apply.
