Honda Prelude Gets Limited Edition Colour Scheme for Europe

  • Honda is bringing the Prelude Limited Edition to Europe from autumn 2026, following a strong response to its Japanese launch.
  • The car pairs a new Premium Crystal Garnet Metallic exterior with a Bordeaux leather interior, red Brembo calipers and 19-inch black cut alloy wheels.
  • It keeps the standard Prelude’s e:HEV hybrid setup and Honda’s S+ Shift software, which mimics the feel of a manual gearbox.

Honda gives its revived sports coupe a limited-run colour scheme for Europe

Honda has confirmed a Prelude Limited Edition for European buyers, a run built around a new exterior colour and cabin trim rather than any change to the car underneath. It follows the edition’s debut in Japan, where Honda says demand ran well ahead of what the brand expected. UK and European customers get their turn from autumn 2026, badged as a 2027 model year car.

A distinct look, inside and out

The headline change is Premium Crystal Garnet Metallic paint, a deep red finish Honda developed to catch the light across the Prelude’s curved body panels. Red accents carry onto the front and rear bumpers, and the brake calipers switch to Brembo units finished in red, visible through a set of 19-inch black cut alloy wheels.

Inside, Honda swaps the standard cabin for a Bordeaux colour scheme across the seats, door trim and dashboard, with contrast red stitching on the steering wheel and centre console. Floor mats pick up the same red accent, and each car gets a Prelude logo embroidered into the dashboard, a detail Honda is pitching as close to a signature on every unit built.

Same hybrid coupe underneath

Honda has not touched the mechanical side of the car for this edition. The Prelude keeps its e:HEV hybrid powertrain and S+ Shift, a software layer that simulates gear changes and engine braking to give a hybrid automatic something closer to the feel of a manual gearbox. Honda has leaned on that setup from the current Prelude’s launch onward, pitching the car as a coupe for drivers who want engagement without giving up hybrid efficiency.

Tomoyuki Yamagami, the Prelude’s large project leader at Honda, described the car’s character as closer to a glider than a conventional sports car. “When you think of a sports car, you think of something sharp, like an F1 car or a fighter jet,” he said. “I think the theme of this model is closer to the image of a glider that glides through the air with a sense of freedom.”

Why the Prelude nameplate still draws attention

Honda first launched the Prelude nearly 50 years ago, and the nameplate spent several decades as the brand’s showcase for new technology before it disappeared from most markets in the early 2000s. Its return has given Honda a genuine enthusiast car to sit above the Civic Type R in customer attention, even as the rest of the lineup shifts toward electrification. A limited-run special edition, arriving less than a year after the model’s European relaunch, points to a stronger initial reception than Honda originally planned for.

Honda has not released UK pricing or a production number for the Limited Edition, and a spokesperson did not confirm how many cars will reach British dealers. Buyers interested in the car should contact a Honda retailer directly once order books open this autumn. Limited-run specials on enthusiast models typically sell through their allocation quickly, and the Prelude’s Japanese launch showed strong demand for the standard car alone.

The standard Prelude has already picked up recognition on the safety side this year, with Honda becoming the first manufacturer to receive a five-star rating under the FIA’s Road Safety Index. That rating gives anyone cross-shopping a coupe against a more practical family car one less reason to hesitate. Between the safety score and a distinct new colour option, Honda has given UK buyers more to go on before the car reaches showrooms this autumn.

How the Prelude compares with its rivals

Honda pitched the current Prelude as a rare thing in 2026: a two-door hybrid coupe at a time when most manufacturers have dropped small sports coupes from their lineups altogether. Toyota still sells the GR86, but that car skips hybrid power entirely. The Prelude instead borrows its drivetrain logic from the Civic, wrapping a proven hybrid system in a lower, sleeker body and adding software that fakes the sensation of gear changes for drivers who miss a manual.

That combination has made the Prelude something of a talking point among owners cross-shopping hot hatches and coupes rather than outright sports cars. A Limited Edition built around colour and trim, rather than a power increase, tells buyers Honda sees enough demand in the range-topping segment to justify a dedicated run, without diluting what made the standard car distinctive in the first place.
