Three Best-Sellers, One Quieter Hybrid Setup

MG Motor UK has updated its three highest-volume models, the MG3, MG ZS and MG HS, with a focus on refinement rather than reinvention. The changes centre on the Hybrid+ powertrain shared by the MG3 and MG ZS, plus a run of comfort and convenience upgrades that spread across all three ranges. Pricing starts at £17,995 for the entry MG3 and £27,495 for the MG HS, numbers MG has held steady even as it adds equipment.

The pitch from MG is simple: keep the value proposition that pulled buyers away from established rivals, then quietly sharpen the parts of ownership people notice every day. David Allison, Director of Product and Planning at MG Motor UK, put it plainly: “Customers choose MG because they expect superior equipment, modern technology and an enjoyable car to drive. Keeping that promise means continuing to improve our most popular models.” He added that the changes give owners “more of what matters on every journey, while retaining the strong value at the heart of their appeal.”

What Changes on the MG3 and MG ZS

MG has reworked the traction motor and generator on the Hybrid+ models, aiming to cut noise and vibration under load. The result, according to MG, is a calmer cabin at speed and steadier response when the petrol engine and electric motor hand over to each other. Neither car needs a plug: the system tops up its own battery and switches between electric and petrol running on its own.

SE Hybrid+ trims now come with a 360-degree camera and rear parking sensors, useful in tight supermarket car parks or narrow streets, and a wireless phone charger. Trophy Hybrid+ cars add a power tailgate and an opening panoramic sunroof. Inside, SE cars get new black cloth upholstery, while Trophy models move to a black leather and suede-style finish.

Pricing across the MG3 range runs from £17,995 for the SE petrol, available from December 2026, to £21,995 for the Trophy Hybrid+. The MG ZS starts at £21,495 for the SE petrol and tops out at £26,495 for the Trophy Hybrid+.

MG HS Gains a Quicker Plug-in Hybrid and Winter-Friendly Kit

The MG HS gets a broader set of changes, spread across petrol, Hybrid+ and Plug-in Hybrid versions. Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel join the SE specification, alongside wireless phone charging and one-touch operation for all four windows. Trophy models add ventilated front seats and the same panoramic sunroof fitted to the smaller MG3 and MG ZS. A 360-degree camera and a mirror tilt-down function, which angles the door mirror down when reversing to keep kerbs in view, feature across the range.

The Plug-in Hybrid version returns WLTP combined CO2 emissions of 12g/km, low enough to cover most commutes and school runs on electric power alone, with the petrol engine there for longer trips. MG prices the HS from £27,495 for the SE petrol, rising to £35,995 for the Trophy Plug-in Hybrid. The first Plug-in Hybrid models reach retailers by mid-October, while the rest of the updated range is available to order now.

That cover, combined with prices that undercut most Ford, Vauxhall and Hyundai equivalents by a wide margin, explains why MG has climbed so fast up the UK sales charts. These upgrades read like a brand protecting that position rather than chasing a new one: smoother power delivery, extra kit and a lower-emissions plug-in option, all without moving the price needle. Buyers who already looked at an MG3, ZS or HS get a stronger case to sign; those cross-shopping a Dacia Duster or a Renault Captur now have another reason to add MG to the list.

A three-pedal, non-plug hybrid still suits a lot of UK driveways better than a pure EV. Anyone without off-street parking or a home charger gets the fuel savings and lower emissions of electrification without needing to plan a single charging stop, which is why Hybrid+ has become MG’s biggest seller rather than a side option next to the brand’s electric cars.

The gap to rivals is where the MG3 does most of its work. A Toyota Yaris Hybrid starts from £23,845, nearly £3,850 above the MG3 Hybrid+ at £19,995 for a broadly similar hatchback layout and self-charging setup. Dacia’s Duster Hybrid, a closer match for the MG ZS on size, starts from £23,345, putting the ZS SE Hybrid+ at £23,995 within touching distance rather than clearly ahead on price alone, which is why MG leans on equipment to close the gap: the camera, sunroof and heated seats other brands charge extra for come bundled in as standard on higher trims. This update adds to that stack rather than resetting the prices, more kit and a smoother hybrid system for the same headline figures.
