2027 Ram ProMaster City Van Returns to US Market From $37,400

Ram Fills a Van Segment It Helped Empty

Ram has set pricing on the 2027 ProMaster City, a compact commercial van that starts at $37,400 for the base Tradesman cargo model. With destination charges added, the cheapest configuration comes to $39,995, a number Ram picked on purpose. Executives had promised a starting price under $40,000 when they first showed the new van earlier this year, and the sticker confirms they hit that target.

The return runs deeper than the price tag. Ram pulled the ProMaster City from the US market after the 2022 model year. Ford dropped the Transit Connect after 2023 and later scrapped a Maverick-based successor that was supposed to replace it. Mercedes-Benz stopped selling the Metris around the same time. Small businesses that wanted a maneuverable, city-friendly work van were left choosing between full-size options like the Ford Transit, Ram ProMaster or Mercedes Sprinter, or hunting the used market for whatever compact van they could find. Landscapers, electricians, plumbers and delivery operators running tight urban routes had spent close to three years without a purpose-built small van on sale new in the US. The 2027 ProMaster City reopens a segment Ram itself helped close, and for now it stands alone there: no other automaker currently sells a comparable mid-size commercial van in the country.

What the Money Buys

Four configurations cover the range. The Tradesman Cargo starts at $37,400, the Tradesman Passenger Wagon at $40,100, the SLT Cargo at $38,900 and the SLT Passenger Wagon at $41,600, all before the $2,595 destination charge. Cargo versions carry equipment; passenger wagons seat five or eight depending on how buyers configure the interior, with an optional partition wall or third-row seating for the higher capacity.

Every ProMaster City comes with a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10-inch touchscreen running Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital rearview mirror, heated front seats, a tilt-and-telescoping steering column and a one-touch express up/down driver’s window. Move up to SLT and Ram adds front parking sensors, a wireless phone charger, a heated steering wheel, body-color bumper panels, fog lamps and 17-inch dual-tone wheels.

Safety equipment now comes standard across the lineup rather than as an upcharge. That includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, Driver Attention Alert, automatic headlamps with LED daytime running lights and automatic high beams, a ParkView rear backup camera, ParkSense rear parking sensors, hill-start assist and a programmable speed limiter. Passenger Wagon models add second- and third-row side-curtain airbags.

A Turbo Four Does the Hauling

Power comes from a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder producing 166 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic sending power to the front wheels. Ram rates the van for roughly 2,000 pounds of payload and up to 2,000 pounds of towing when a customer adds the available Class 3 trailer hitch.

The cargo area holds more than 167 cubic feet with a 111-inch load floor, long enough to swallow a standard 4-by-8-foot sheet of plywood or drywall flat on the floor. Ram kept the exterior height under 80 inches, which the company says makes the ProMaster City the only Class 2 commercial van able to fit into most urban parking garages and structures with standard clearance. A 54-inch cargo height and more than 48 inches of space between the rear wheel wells keep the interior usable even with that tight exterior footprint.

Buyers can pick from 11 distinct configurations built around six window and panel combinations and a choice of rear swing doors or a segment-exclusive rear liftgate, letting a landscaping company spec security panels where a delivery fleet might choose windows and a liftgate instead.

Why Ram Brought It Back

“Ram has been making a lot of noise with our truck lineup, but we’re equally focused on the commercial customers who count on us every day to keep their businesses moving,” said Matt VanDyke, Ram CEO. “When we unveiled the all-new ProMaster City earlier this year, we made a commitment to deliver a starting price below $40,000 because we know the cost of acquisition matters, no matter how small or large your business is. Today, we’re delivering on that promise.”

The new van is built on a Stellantis commercial platform the company says has logged billions of miles and more than 1.5 million units sold globally, engineered specifically for North American roads and regulations rather than simply imported unchanged from Europe. It joins the Ram 1500, heavy-duty 2500/3500, the 3500/4500/5500 Chassis Cab and the full-size ProMaster van under the Ram Professional commercial lineup.

When It Arrives

Production begins in 2026, with the first ProMaster City vans reaching dealers in the first quarter of 2027. For a small business currently running an aging Transit Connect or a full-size van it doesn’t really need, the ProMaster City gives them a right-sized option again, at a price that undercuts most of what remains in the compact commercial segment.
