2027 Chevrolet Traverse High Country Adds Standard Interior Camera

Chevrolet is giving the High Country trim on its three-row Traverse SUV a full refresh for the 2027 model year, and the biggest change is not the styling. General Motors is making an interior camera standard equipment on the High Country and RS trims, a feature parents can use to check on kids or pets without turning around in traffic.

The camera feeds a function GM calls Cabin Glance. Instead of glancing in the rearview mirror or asking a passenger to check the back seats, drivers pull up a live view of the second and third rows right on the center touchscreen. GM plans to offer the interior camera across every 2027 Traverse trim, not just High Country and RS.

More Camera Features Arrive With the Update

Two more camera-based features arrive alongside Cabin Glance. Surround Vision Recorder lets owners save video clips from the vehicle’s exterior cameras onto a USB drive while the vehicle runs, a way to capture a scenic drive or document an incident on the road. Security Recording works on its own: if the vehicle’s alarm goes off, the system starts recording footage automatically, giving owners a record of a break-in attempt or vandalism without installing a separate dash cam.

Both features need an owner to plug in a USB drive first. GM has not mentioned a subscription fee or added service plan tied to either one.

A New Look for High Country

Outside, the 2027 Traverse High Country gets a new badge design on the front doors and liftgate, a Tritan Satin finish on the grille and headlamp trim, and a fresh set of 22-inch high-gloss black wheels with machined faces. Inside, Chevrolet swaps in Jet Black seats with Natural Tan accents and edging, debossed headrests on the front row, and real wood trim panels across the dash and doors.

Phil Zak, GM’s global executive exterior design director, described the update as part of a push to make High Country feel more upscale. “High Country is an important part of Chevrolet’s design strategy: a premium expression with a clear role across the lineup,” Zak said. “Launching first on the new Traverse and then on the Silverado, we’re evolving the trim’s identity into something more premium, modern, athletic and aspirational, while keeping it grounded in the capability and confidence that define Chevrolet.”

Engine, Towing and Cargo Room Carry Over

Mechanically, the 2027 Traverse High Country keeps GM’s turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, rated at 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque, with a maximum trailering rating of 5,000 pounds. Cargo volume reaches 98 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded flat. A 17.7-inch center touchscreen comes standard, and buyers can add GM’s hands-free Super Cruise driver assistance system on top of the brand’s usual automatic emergency braking and lane-keeping features.

The outgoing 2026 Traverse High Country starts at roughly $56,995 before destination charges, and Chevrolet has not said whether the redesigned 2027 version will hold that price, drop it, or push it higher along with the new camera hardware. Traverse sales rose 20% in the second quarter of 2026 and posted the nameplate’s best-ever first half of a year, and Chevrolet is positioning High Country as the trim that keeps buyers loyal to the badge rather than shopping a rival three-row SUV. The Traverse competes with the Honda Pilot, Toyota Grand Highlander, Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade, several of which already offer their own camera-based cabin features on top trims, usually behind an options package rather than as standard equipment.

Timing and the Silverado Connection

Production on the 2027 Traverse High Country begins in September at GM’s Lansing Delta Township Assembly plant in Michigan. Chevrolet has not released full 2027 pricing, and a specific on-sale date for dealer lots was not part of this announcement.

The same High Country treatment is coming to the redesigned 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. GM says the pickup’s version will add its own Tritan Satin grille, a panoramic sunroof that marks a first for Silverado, and more than 60 combined diagonal inches of digital displays spread across the dashboard. Buyers who want the redesigned trim on a truck rather than an SUV will need to wait for that Silverado’s full reveal, which GM has not scheduled yet.

For families cross-shopping the segment, moving the interior camera from an options list to standard equipment on two Traverse trims marks a real shift. Camera-based cabin monitoring has mostly stayed tucked inside pricier packages across the industry, often bundled with a rear-seat reminder system or a driver-monitoring suite that pushes the total cost higher. Chevrolet making the camera standard before pricing has even been confirmed suggests the brand expects the feature to draw buyers on its own, rather than sit as an afterthought on a spec sheet next to blind-spot warning and adaptive cruise control.

Shoppers who want the new camera hardware without waiting for the Silverado should watch for Chevrolet’s official 2027 Traverse pricing announcement, expected closer to the September production start. Until then, the $56,995 starting point on the outgoing High Country trim remains the closest guide to where the redesigned version will likely land.
