Genesis has priced its first high-performance model at $69,950 before destination charges. The 2027 GV60 Magma is a dual-motor electric SUV that produces more than 600 horsepower in normal driving and up to 641 horsepower with 583 lb-ft of torque when the driver switches on Boost Mode. It reaches Genesis retailers in California, New York and New Jersey within the coming weeks, with other states to follow.

What Makes the Magma Different

The Magma sits wider and lower than a standard GV60 and picks up its own aerodynamic parts: canards on the front bumper, garnishes and breathers on the fender, and a winglet-style rear spoiler. Exclusive 21-inch forged wheels carry wider tires for extra grip. Under the skin, an upgraded dual-motor all-wheel-drive system pushes standard output past 600 horsepower, with the full 641 horsepower and 583 lb-ft available only when Boost Mode is engaged.

Tedros Mengiste, chief operating officer of Genesis Motor North America, described the car as a step into new territory for the brand: “GV60 Magma marks an exciting new chapter for Genesis as we expand our lineup to meet the evolving needs and passions of our customers. As our first high-performance model, GV60 Magma combines exceptional performance, advanced technology and bold design to create a driving experience that is both emotional and engaging. It reflects our commitment to delivering products that inspire and give consumers new ways to experience Genesis.”

Inside, buyers get Genesis’ first performance bucket seat, trimmed in suede with an Obsidian Black base and Magma Orange stitching. A dedicated Boost button and a Magma Mode button sit on the steering wheel for quick access to the car’s sharpest settings. Alloy pedals and a gauge cluster built around a performance-focused infotainment display come as standard, and buyers can choose from four exterior colors: the signature Magma Orange, plus Uyuni White, Vik Black and Makalu Gray Matte.

Track-Focused Tech Explained

Genesis built a set of Magma-only driving modes around the car’s dual motors. Virtual Gear Shift recreates the feel of changing gears in a combustion performance car, pairing a simulated rev counter with shift feedback and sound to mimic a manual shift point. GT Mode softens the car for long highway stretches, balancing comfort against power. SPRINT Mode sharpens the steering and throttle response for back-road driving, and Launch Control manages torque and slip for the strongest possible standing start.

Drift Mode goes further, giving the GV60 Magma a controlled slide setting tuned for a battery-electric platform, something few electric performance cars currently offer as a factory setting. Genesis pairs the mode with its virtual sound system, called e-Active Sound Design Plus, which plays synthetic engine noise through speakers at the front and rear of the car, including a set of sounds inspired by the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

How the Price Stacks Up

The GV60 Magma shares its underpinnings with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, a car built on the same platform with a matching 641-horsepower peak output. Hyundai lists the Ioniq 5 N from $59,900, and cut that starting price by more than $6,000 earlier this year, pushing it closer to $53,900. That puts roughly $9,000 to $16,000 of daylight between the two cars for buyers comparing Genesis badge and cabin against Hyundai’s lower entry price for near-identical performance.

Kia’s rival EV6 GT, which once competed directly with both cars, is no longer sold in the United States, leaving the Ioniq 5 N as the Magma’s closest direct comparison on price and power. Buyers cross-shopping the segment will find the Magma positioned as the plusher, better-equipped option of the pair rather than the cheaper choice by default.

The Magma also sits well above the rest of the GV60 lineup, which starts in the mid-$50,000s for the standard rear-wheel-drive model. That gap gives Genesis room to sell the Magma as a distinct, higher-performance product rather than a simple trim step, similar to how BMW separates its M cars or Mercedes-AMG separates its own performance models from the standard range. It is the first vehicle to carry the Magma name, which Genesis has said will extend to other models in its lineup over time.

Standard Equipment and Availability

Every GV60 Magma comes with an 84 kWh battery, front and rear motors rated at a combined 448 kW, an electronic limited-slip differential, heated and ventilated front seats, and a 27-inch OLED infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. A Bang & Olufsen sound system, a rearview camera with parking guidelines, and a surround-view monitor with blind-spot viewing round out the standard list, alongside what Genesis describes as a full suite of available advanced safety features.

Genesis says the GV60 Magma will land at select retailers in California, New York and New Jersey in the coming weeks, with a wider national rollout to follow. Buyers elsewhere can register interest through their local Genesis retailer or at genesis.com ahead of a broader launch.
