  • The 2027 Kia K5 starts at $27,690 for the base LXS trim, before a $1,245 destination charge, after Kia cut the EX trim from the lineup.
  • Three trims remain: LXS, GT-Line and GT, with the range-topping GT keeping its 290-horsepower turbocharged engine.
  • Every 2027 K5 comes with 17 standard collision avoidance and driver assistance features, and a new GT-Line convenience package adds ventilated seats and a driver memory function.

Kia Trims the Lineup but Keeps the K5’s Best Bits

Kia America has set pricing for the 2027 K5, and the midsize sedan gets simpler rather than more expensive. The brand dropped the EX trim entirely, leaving buyers with three choices: LXS, GT-Line and GT. Base pricing runs from $27,690 for the front-wheel-drive LXS to $33,790 for the turbocharged GT, both figures before the $1,245 destination charge that Kia adds on top.

Kia calls this a largely carryover model for 2027, meaning the sheet metal and cabin layout stay put while the trim structure and options list get a trim. That’s a sensible move for a sedan that already competes on value against the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Hyundai Sonata, all of which start in roughly the same $27,000 to $29,000 band.

What Each Trim Costs

Here is the full 2027 K5 price sheet, excluding the $1,245 destination charge:

  • K5 LXS FWD: $27,690
  • K5 GT-Line FWD: $28,690
  • K5 GT-Line AWD: $30,290
  • K5 GT: $33,790

The gap between the cheapest and most expensive K5 sits at just over $6,000, which is a narrower spread than some rivals offer. Buyers who want all-wheel drive have to step up to GT-Line AWD at $30,290, a $1,600 premium over the front-wheel-drive version of the same trim. All-wheel drive isn’t available on the GT.

The GT Still Delivers the Power

The performance case for the K5 rests with the GT trim, which keeps its 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 290 horsepower. That output puts it ahead of the base engines in the Accord and Camry, and it remains one of the stronger figures in a segment where most competitors top out in the 190 to 240 horsepower range for their standard four-cylinders.

For 2027, Kia adds a new available convenience package for the GT-Line trim. It bundles ventilated front seats, a driver memory seat and power-folding outside mirrors, features that used to require stepping up to a pricier trim on many rivals. It’s a small addition, but one that closes a gap between the K5 and sedans that already offered these comforts one rung down the price ladder.

Safety Comes Standard Across the Range

Every 2027 K5, including the base LXS, ships with 17 standard collision avoidance and driver assistance features. Kia hasn’t broken down the full list item by item in this announcement, but the automaker has built its recent sedans around a standard suite that typically includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist and adaptive cruise control. Making that suite standard rather than optional removes a common source of sticker shock, where buyers find safety features locked behind an options package on other cars.

That standard safety package counts for a lot in a segment where family buyers cross-shop heavily on price. A car that starts under $28,000 and still includes a full driver assistance suite gives the K5 an argument against rivals that charge extra for the same equipment.

Running Costs and What’s Left Unanswered

Kia’s announcement covers pricing and the trim walk, not fuel economy figures for the 2027 model year. Outgoing K5 models with the 1.6-liter turbo four in LXS and GT-Line trims returned EPA-rated combined figures in the low 30s for city and highway driving, while the 290-horsepower GT trades some of that efficiency for its extra output. Buyers cross-shopping on running costs should wait for the official EPA numbers before assuming the 2027 car matches last year’s figures exactly, though Kia has not signaled any powertrain changes that would move the needle significantly in either direction.

Kia also hasn’t detailed exterior color choices, wheel designs or interior trim options for 2027, all of which typically arrive closer to the on-sale date. What buyers know for certain right now is the price they’ll pay and the safety equipment that comes standard, and in a segment increasingly won on value, those are the two figures that count the most.

Where the K5 Sits in the Segment

Midsize sedans keep shrinking as a share of new car sales, but the ones that remain compete hard on price and equipment. The Hyundai Sonata, built by Kia’s sister brand, starts at $27,450 plus a $1,245 destination charge, undercutting the K5 LXS by $240. The Honda Accord starts at $28,395 with its 1.5-liter turbo engine, and the Toyota Camry has moved to a hybrid-only lineup starting at $29,300.

None of those rivals match the GT’s 290-horsepower output at the top of their gas-powered ranges, which keeps the K5 relevant for buyers who want a quick sedan without stepping into a sports car or a smaller hot hatch. Kia hasn’t announced an on-sale date beyond confirming the 2027 model year pricing, so expect the K5 to reach dealers on the usual late-year timeline for a carryover refresh.
