  • The Musso EV, KGM’s first electric pick-up, costs £39,995 including VAT and the government’s £5,000 Plug-in Van Grant.
  • It carries the lowest Benefit-in-Kind tax rate of any commercial vehicle on sale in the UK, from £30 a month for a 20% taxpayer.
  • The truck tows up to 2.3 tonnes, covers more than 240 miles on a charge and carries a 690kg payload.

KGM Prices Its Electric Pick-Up to Match the Diesel Version

KGM Motors UK, the brand formerly known as SsangYong, has put a firm number on its first electric pick-up truck. The all-new Musso EV costs £39,995 including VAT once the government’s £5,000 Plug-in Van Grant is applied, a price the company says matches its combustion-engined diesel Musso range exactly.

That pricing decision was deliberate. Clive Messenger, sales director at KGM UK, said: “When we decided to bring the Musso EV into the market, it was very important to us to make it the same price as our award-winning combustion-engine diesel Musso range, so the customer can decide what powertrain is right for them depending on their own circumstances.”

A Tax Bill Most Pick-Up Owners Will Notice

The bigger financial story is company car tax. Double-cab pick-ups lost their favourable Benefit-in-Kind treatment after recent changes to personal taxation rules, pushing many business users toward vans or smaller vehicles instead. The Musso EV sidesteps that shift by carrying the lowest Benefit-in-Kind rate of any commercial vehicle currently sold in the UK, working out to roughly £30 a month for a 20% taxpayer in the 2026-27 tax year.

For a driver using a pick-up as a company vehicle, that difference can run into hundreds of pounds a year compared with a diesel equivalent, on top of savings on fuel versus electricity costs for regular mileage.

Capability Figures That Match a Working Truck

KGM has not softened the Musso EV’s work credentials to hit its price target. The truck tows up to 2.3 tonnes, carries a 690kg payload and covers more than 240 miles on a single charge, according to the manufacturer’s figures. Messenger described the driving experience as “4WD and direct EV power,” positioning the Musso EV as a genuine alternative to diesel rather than a compromised electric option.

“It does everything you need,” Messenger said. “It’s got 2.3-tonne towing capacity, a 240-mile-plus range, 690kg of payload capacity. It’s just a fantastic vehicle to drive with 4WD and direct EV power, and people can be confident in it. On top of that, there are some significant taxation benefits to the individual if they go electric. Regarding BIK, the Musso EV has the lowest of any commercial vehicle in the UK, just £30 a month for a 20% taxpayer. That’s less than a pound a day.”

KGM has confirmed the Musso EV uses the same ladder-chassis platform as the diesel Musso, which explains why the two trucks share identical exterior dimensions and load bed capacity. The approach differs from rivals building dedicated electric platforms from scratch, but it lets KGM bring the EV to market faster and keep production costs, and the price, close to the combustion version.

Charging remains the open question for tradespeople sizing up the switch. KGM has not published a rapid-charging time for the Musso EV, and much will depend on whether buyers can plug in overnight at a depot or home driveway rather than relying solely on public network chargers on the working day.

An Emerging Category With Few Direct Rivals

Electric pick-up trucks remain a new category in the UK, and KGM’s timing puts the Musso EV ahead of most mainstream rivals. Ford, Toyota and Volkswagen have yet to bring a fully electric equivalent of the Ranger, Hilux or Amarok to UK showrooms, leaving KGM with a rare window to establish the Musso EV before the segment fills out.

KGM presented the truck at the GREENFLEET Mythbuster EV Rally 2026, an event built around addressing scepticism toward electric commercial vehicles among fleet buyers. Messenger said the response has gone beyond the fleet market the event targeted. “The Musso EV ticks a lot of boxes, and it is a real opportunity for a wide range of users,” he said. “We are seeing that it is being considered not just by National Fleet and SME operators, but also by private and lifestyle customers.”

Part of a Wider Rebrand

The Musso EV arrives as KGM continues distancing itself from its SsangYong history, a rebrand completed in January 2024 under UK importer Bassadone Automotive Group. The company has expanded its UK dealer network to around 80 outlets and is pushing the Musso EV as evidence of a broader move into electrified models, following the diesel-only reputation the brand carried for years under its old name.

For buyers sizing up a pick-up purchase now, the Musso EV changes the calculation in a way few electric commercial vehicles have managed: identical pricing to the diesel version, a towing and payload figure that holds up against combustion rivals, and a tax bill low enough to notice for anyone running one through a business.
