New Suzuki Swift to debut with hybrid power, Swift Sport to follow – report

The 2024 Suzuki Swift is expected to be unveiled in the coming months, with the Swift Sport likely to follow in the first half of next year, according to overseas reports.

Japanese magazine BestCar claims Suzuki will debut the Swift with a 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine with mild-hybrid technology, and could be based on an engine currently available for European markets to ensure low tailpipe emissions.

However, given Australia’s more relaxed emissions laws, it’s not clear which engine our market will get at this early stage.

Meanwhile, BestCar reports the Swift Sport will be unveiled during Japan’s spring season in 2024 (approximately the second quarter of the year, during Australia’s autumn), and will be powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine – also with mild-hybrid technology.

The Japanese market is expected to receive the same engine developed for Europe and the region’s strict emissions controls – making it a possibility Australia receives the same engine in the Swift Sport.

Australia’s current Swift Sport also uses a 1.4-litre turbo engine, albeit without hybrid assistance.

Spy photos of the new-generation Swift suggest the overall shape will be retained, with the design largely reminiscent of the current model.

Unconfirmed reports say to expect the unveiling of the 2024 Suzuki Swift before October 2023, with the Swift Sport to follow in the months before June 2024.
