  • Jeep will open orders for the 2027 Wrangler JL-2A special edition in October, priced at just $115 above a comparably equipped Rubicon.
  • The package pairs paint and wheel colors inspired by the 1945 Willys CJ-2A with a Wrangler-first leather interior in Heritage Tan and Bison Brown.
  • Built on the Rubicon, the JL-2A keeps that trim’s locking differentials and low-range gearing and is the 11th release in Jeep’s yearlong Twelve4Twelve series.

Retro Style Costs Barely More Than Standard Rubicon Trim

Jeep will open orders for the 2027 Wrangler JL-2A in October. Built on the Wrangler Rubicon, the special edition borrows its name and its look from the Willys CJ-2A, the truck that carried Jeep capability into civilian hands for the first time in 1945. Jeep prices the package at an MSRP of $4,995, a total that lands just $115 above a comparably equipped Rubicon. For a Wrangler with exclusive paint, wheels and a distinct cabin, that gap barely shows up on the sticker. The Wrangler Rubicon already sits near the top of the compact SUV segment on price, so a $115 add-on for heritage styling counts as a rounding error against the overall total.

Colors and Wheels Pulled From 1945

Buyers can choose from five exterior colors. Gobi leads the two-door lineup and ’41 leads the four-door, with Bright White, Sting Gray, Ghost and Joose rounding out the palette. Jeep designers pulled Gobi from the Harvest Tan finish on the original CJ-2A, while a set of 17-inch retro wheels finished in Joose nods to the Sunset Red wheels fitted to the 1945 truck. Standard 33-inch BFGoodrich KO2 all-terrain tires wrap those wheels, and orange tow hooks front and rear pick up the same color. A body-color three-piece hardtop and matching fender flares keep the exterior look clean rather than busy.

A Cabin Combination New to the Wrangler Lineup

Inside, Jeep introduces a color and material pairing that has not appeared in a Wrangler before: Nappa Heritage Tan leather seats and instrument-panel bolster, set against Bison Brown door panels, lower dash and center console. Desert Orange stitching runs through the cabin and ties back to the orange wheels outside. A satin chrome shifter medallion carries a Willys-Overland design, the HVAC vents repeat the seven-slot grille motif, and a rear swing-gate plaque recreates the data plate from the original CJ-2A dashboard, farm and factory artwork included.

Standard equipment on the JL-2A includes a Convenience Group with remote start, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a universal garage door opener, plus a front TrailCam fitted with its own washer for keeping the lens clear on muddy trails.

What the Rubicon Underneath Brings

The JL-2A starts as a Rubicon, so buyers get that trim’s off-road hardware along with the retro styling. That means front and rear locking differentials, an electronic sway-bar disconnect for extra wheel travel on rough trails, and 4:1 low-range gearing for crawling over obstacles. The JL-2A does not trade off-road hardware for looks. It adds heritage styling on top of Jeep’s most capable Wrangler trim rather than in place of it.

The Truck That Started the “CJ” Name

Willys-Overland built the CJ-2A in Toledo, Ohio, starting in July 1945, adapting the wartime Willys MB for farms, ranches and small industry. That truck introduced a tailgate, a rear power takeoff and the seven-slot grille, features still tied to Jeep today, alongside paint choices such as Harvest Tan with Sunset Red wheels and Pasture Green with Autumn Yellow wheels that line up with the JL-2A’s own colors.

“The original CJ-2A represents a defining chapter in Jeep brand history. It is the moment the Jeep vehicle found a new purpose in communities across America,” said Jeep brand CEO Branden Coté. “More than eight decades later, the 2027 Wrangler JL-2A brings that story full circle, carrying forward an iconic silhouette shaped by 85 years of continuous 4×4 leadership while honoring the original through unmistakable design details and delivering the freedom, adventure and legendary capability that will take a new generation wherever the trail leads.”

Where the JL-2A Fits Against Rival Special Editions

Special-edition off-roaders have become a regular fixture across the segment. Ford sells Bronco Heritage models with retro paint and badging, and Toyota has leaned on FJ Cruiser-inspired colors for recent 4Runner and Land Cruiser trims. What sets the JL-2A apart is price. A $115 premium over a comparable Rubicon undercuts most heritage packages from rival brands, which commonly add $2,000 or more for similar cosmetic and interior changes.

Jeep has used the Twelve4Twelve series throughout 2026 to release a special edition about once a month, each tied to a different chapter in the brand’s history. The JL-2A marks the 11th of those releases, with one more expected before the series wraps. Jeep has not said whether the JL-2A will run through the full 2027 model year or arrive in limited numbers, so buyers who want one should plan to order as soon as it becomes available in October.

For shoppers cross-shopping heritage trims across brands, the JL-2A gives a clear price anchor: distinctive looks and a new interior combination for a cost that rounds to the price of a few options boxes, not a separate trim level’s worth of markup.
