The 2024 Tesla Model 3 has been hit with price hikes of $1500 to $4500 for the updated model due in Australian showrooms late this year or early next year.
Unveiled this morning, the facelifted Model 3 brings a new look, upgraded interior without gear selector or indicator stalks, new features, and more driving range for all models.
Despite reports claiming a possible price cut – as the updated model would reportedly be simpler and cheaper to manufacture – Tesla’s 2024 Model 3 line-up in Australia is $1500 to $4500 more expensive than before.
There are only two models, the Rear-Wheel Drive and Long Range all-wheel-drive. There is no sign of the Performance model; it is unclear if it has been dropped permanently or if it will return at a later date.
First Australian deliveries for orders placed today are due between January and March 2024, pending any delays. However it is believed some customers already in the queue for the pre-update model will get the new version before the end of this year.
The base Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) is now priced from $61,900 plus on-road costs in Australia, an increase of $4500. It has effectively undone a price cut of $3900 applied on 1 July 2023 – but it is still $3600 cheaper than the Model 3 RWD was at the start of this year.
Meanwhile, the Long Range AWD is priced from $71,900 plus on-road costs, up $1500 – but it is still $8100 cheaper than it was on January 1.
All prices above exclude Tesla’s mandatory $400 order fee and $1400 delivery fee, as well as on-road costs that vary between state and territory such as registration, stamp duty (where applicable) and third-party insurance.

As reported, the updated look brings restyled front and rear fascias with sharper LED lights, new bumpers, new-design 18- and 19-inch alloy wheels, and two new colours: Stealth Grey and Ultra Red.
Inside there is a redesigned dashboard, revised centre console, a slightly larger touchscreen with thinner bezels and faster responses, new seats, as well as new features such as ambient cabin lighting, front-seat ventilation, and upgraded sound systems.
The steering wheel is new, and the stalks behind it have been deleted in favour of gear selection on the touchscreen – and indicator controls as touch-sensitive buttons on the steering wheel.
It is believed the batteries and electric motors have not changed, but improved aerodynamics have increased its claimed WLTP driving range from 491km to 513km in the RWD, and 602km to 629km in the Long Range.
In the old model, the RWD combined a circa-60kWh battery with a 208kW electric motor, while the Long Range used a circa-80kWh battery with dual motors developing 366kW.
Option prices have increased with the updated model; the new 19-inch Nova wheels are $300 dearer than the old Sport alloys, while the new Ultra Red and Stealth Grey are more expensive than the previous Red Multi-Coat and Midnight Silver Metallic.
The 2024 Tesla Model 3 is now available to order on the Tesla Australia website.
Deposits placed today are said to see delivery between January and March 2024, but it is unclear if customers who have already placed an order for a vehicle – when the pre-facelift model was advertised on the website – will see delivery sooner.
Drive has been told by some buyers that $750 referral codes given by existing customers to new purchasers are not – at the time of publication – working for the updated Model 3.
