Four years after the 208 was launched in overseas markets, the small French hatch has received its mid-life facelift – and the electric variant is coming to Australia.

The 2024 Peugeot E-208 electric hatchback is due to arrive in Australia next year, with expressions of interest now open for potential buyers.

Peugeot unveiled the facelifted 208 hatchback in Europe overnight – a model Australia has missed out on since the current generation launched in 2019 – however the company’s local division has confirmed it will be making a return as an electric model only.

While exact specifications have yet to be confirmed for Australia, the model is expected to offer approximately 400 kilometres of driving range from a single charge, thanks to its 51kWh battery pack powering a 115kW/260Nm electric motor on the front axle.

In Europe, the pre-facelift E-208 covers the 0-100km/h sprint in 8.1 seconds.

The electric Peugeot hatch also comes with a 7.4kW single-phase on-board charger as standard, while an 11kW three-phase on-board charger is also an option overseas.

For those with access to a 100kW fast charger, the E-208 can be recharged from 20 to 80 per cent in less than 25 minutes, the French car-maker claims.

The Peugeot E-208 shares its platform with the Vauxhall Corsa sold in Europe – badged for a time in Australia as the Holden Barina – as well as the Peugeot 2008 small SUV sold in Australia in petrol and, soon, electric forms.

In New Zealand, where the E-208 has been available for some time, prices start at $NZ67,990 plus on-road costs – roughly translating to $AU63,000 before on-road costs.

Peugeot Australia is inviting expressions of interest on its website found here, with local pricing and specifications to be confirmed closer to the E-208’s arrival in 2024.
