  • Nissan has revealed the all-new PIXO, a small electric city car with a 161-mile range and 50kW rapid charging as standard on every trim.
  • The PIXO uses a new Lithium Iron Phosphate battery, Nissan’s first in Europe, and comes with Google built-in and the Gemini AI assistant.
  • Customer deliveries start in early 2027, with UK pricing due in December and orders opening from around the same time.

Nissan’s Answer to the Budget EV Boom

Nissan has pulled the covers off the PIXO, a small electric city car built to compete in one of the fastest-growing corners of the new car market: cheap EVs that people can actually afford. The PIXO offers a 161-mile range from a 27.5kWh battery, 50kW DC rapid charging as standard across every trim level, and independent rear sliding seats that free up space in a car measuring under 3.8 metres long.

Nissan has not confirmed UK pricing, saying only that market-specific figures will arrive from December, with customer deliveries starting in early 2027. That puts the PIXO on a similar timeline to several rivals already fighting over buyers who want an EV without a five-figure loan.

Range and Charging Built Around City Life

The PIXO’s 27.5kWh battery uses Lithium Iron Phosphate cells, a first for a Nissan sold in Europe, and one that typically favours durability and lower cost over outright energy density. Nissan quotes 161 miles of range on the WLTP cycle, enough for daily school runs and errands without needing a mid-week charge for most drivers. A 50kW DC charger takes the battery from 15% to 80% in around 28 minutes, while an 11kW AC connection covers home and workplace charging.

That range sits ahead of the UK’s two cheapest EVs. The Dacia Spring manages 140 miles from its base battery and starts at £15,990, while the Leapmotor T03 covers 165 miles and starts at £15,995. The Citroën ë-C3, at £19,995, edges the PIXO on range with 201 miles. Nissan has not said where the PIXO’s price will land, but with a bigger battery than the Spring and standard-fit rapid charging the Dacia doesn’t offer on every trim, Nissan will need to price carefully to avoid getting squeezed between the budget end of the market and the established superminis just above it.

Small Outside, Practical Inside

At 3,796mm long and 1,790mm wide, the PIXO is built for narrow streets and tight parking spaces, with a turning circle of just 9.9 metres. Independent rear sliding seats let owners trade rear legroom for boot space, which stretches to 356 litres with the rear seats up, a number Nissan says leads the class, and 1,221 litres with them folded flat. An 18-litre cabin storage allowance and 50 litres of dedicated cable storage add to the practicality case.

Nissan has also fitted One Pedal technology, which lets a driver accelerate, slow and stop using only the accelerator, a genuine convenience in stop-start city traffic. Adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and hands-free parking all come as standard, a generous spread of driver assistance for a car pitched at the budget end of the market.

Google Tech and a Design Nissan Calls Playful

Google built-in comes as standard, including Google’s Gemini AI assistant available in 16 languages and dialects from launch, alongside a 7-inch driver display and a 10-inch touchscreen. Face ID recognises drivers and loads their saved settings automatically, a feature more commonly found on cars costing twice as much.

Nissan designed the PIXO with cube-inspired proportions and pixel-style lighting, plus a hidden reference to the number 23, which reads as “Ni-San” in Japanese. Masato Koyama, Nissan’s Lead Exterior Designer, said the team worked to “maximise the space” within the car’s compact dimensions, “creating a cabin that feels open, practical and surprisingly roomy.”

Built With Renault, Sold Across Europe

Nissan designed the PIXO in-house but will build it at Renault’s Novo Mesto plant in Slovenia, under a long-standing partnership between the two manufacturers. The PIXO joins the LEAF and Micra as Nissan’s third electric model line in Europe, part of a push to give budget-conscious drivers an electric option that doesn’t ask them to compromise on charging speed or safety tech. Clíodhna Lyons, Nissan’s Vice President for Product, Brand and Marketing Strategy in the AMIEO region, said the car reflects a shift toward “smarter vehicles that fit naturally into people’s lives” rather than bigger cars packed with unnecessary complexity.

Lyons also pointed to rising running costs as a reason drivers are turning to EVs like the PIXO. “As fuel costs continue to rise, our focus remains simple: giving customers practical alternatives that help reduce the cost of every journey,” she said, adding that Nissan’s growing EV range and its e-POWER hybrid technology both aim to lower running costs “without compromising convenience.” For buyers priced out of larger electric cars, that pitch counts for something real: a compact city EV with rapid charging as standard removes one of the biggest complaints levelled at budget electric cars, that owners without a home charger are stuck waiting hours to top up.

Five exterior colours will be available at launch, including Wonder Purple and Gear Blue, alongside a choice of interior trims. Nissan has confirmed the specification and full colour range will follow closer to the PIXO’s December pricing announcement, along with details of which trim levels get which features as standard.
