When your regular Toyota LandCruiser isn’t tough enough, enlist the help of Mahindra to make it literally bulletproof.

Mahindra Emirates Vehicle Armouring have turned its hand to the Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series, converting the four-wheel-drive into a fully-armoured vehicle.

The conversion includes using multi-layered ballistic glass all-round and ballistic steel behind the panels, protecting occupants from 7.62mm rounds. This gives the Mahindra-converted LandCruiser CEN B6, B7 & VR7 certification.

Underbody plating provides blast protection from hand grenades, improvised explosive devices and land mines, while the fuel tank gets an additional layer of protection.

Additionally, the engine control module and 12-volt battery under the bonnet – both of which are vital in keeping the engine running – are protected from damage with ballistic steel.

All of this additional protection adds approximately 1564kg of weight to the LandCruiser, with the kerb weight blowing out 4200kg. Additionally, the GVM (gross vehicle mass) of the armoured LandCruiser grows to 4912kg.

To handle the extra weight, the wheels, tyres, brakes and suspension of the Mahindra armoured LandCruiser are upgraded. Springs, dampers and swaybars are replaced with heavy-duty aftermarket items, while larger brakes are fitted.

The standard tyres are replaced with heavy-duty 12 ply-rated light-truck tyres, fitted with a run-flat system.

Pricing for an armoured conversion is not published, but prices will vary according to which options are required. Options include fire suppression and tyre inflation systems, as well as window gun ports, bullbars and winches.
