Lexus has recalled 154 examples of its 2021-2022 NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid due to an issue with the DC-DC converter, which may have been damaged during production and could short circuit.

“The plug-in hybrid system of the involved vehicles includes a DC-DC converter that reduces the voltage of the electricity from the Hybrid Vehicle (HV) battery in order to charge the vehicle’s 12V battery,” the company says in its recall notice.

“Contained within the DC-DC converter is a current rectifying module that is installed on the circuit board. Some of these modules may have been damaged during production and could short circuit.”

“This allows current from the 12V battery to continue to flow through the module and the module will generate heat. Under certain conditions, if excessive heat is generated, components within and outside the DC-DC converter could sustain thermal damage, increasing the risk of a vehicle fire.”

The brand says it will reach out to owners of affected vehicles.

If you own an affected vehicle, you’ll need to contact your preferred Lexus dealership to have the DC-DC charger replaced free of charge.

Lexus estimates the repair will take 75 minutes, depending on the dealership’s work schedule.

If you own an affected vehicle you can continue driving it, however Lexus requests that you do not continue to use the AC plug-in charger until a repair has been carried out. As a plug-in hybrid, the RX450h+ is still drivable without being charged.

If you have any further questions, you can contact your local dealership or the Lexus Customer Assistance Centre on 1800 023 009.
