Kia Prices 2027 Sorento PHEV from $53,890 with Simplified Trim Lineup

  • Kia has simplified the 2027 Sorento PHEV down to a single, fully loaded X-Line SX-Prestige trim, priced from $53,890 before destination fees.
  • The remaining trim adds a standard head-up display and X-Line styling that was previously reserved for a separate, pricier version of the car.
  • Buyers who wanted the base EX trim or a plainer look no longer have that option on the plug-in hybrid Sorento for the new model year.

One trim, one price, for the plug-in hybrid Sorento

Kia has announced pricing for the 2027 Sorento PHEV, and the news is less about a new feature than about what buyers no longer get to choose. The plug-in hybrid Sorento drops its EX trim entirely for the new model year, leaving the X-Line SX-Prestige as the only way to buy one. That sole trim starts at $53,890, before the $1,495 destination charge, taxes, title and any dealer add-ons.

For shoppers who liked the idea of a cheaper, lower-spec plug-in hybrid Sorento, that choice is gone. For everyone else, the news is better than it first sounds: the surviving trim picks up equipment that used to cost extra or simply was not available on the PHEV at all.

What the one remaining trim adds

The 2027 Sorento PHEV’s sole trim now gets a head-up display as standard, projecting speed and turn-by-turn directions into the driver’s line of sight, a feature that is usually bundled into a separate options package on mainstream three-row SUVs. It also keeps the X-Line’s visual upgrades: embossed front seat backs, machined wood inlays across the instrument panel and doors, gun metal front and rear bumper trim, a high-gloss black window surround, roof rails and mirror caps, and 19-inch black wheels without the machined finish used on lesser trims.

The PHEV also comes with a combined Level 1 and Level 2 charging cable fitted as standard, so owners can plug into either a regular household outlet or a faster home charging point without buying a separate cable. The only notable color change for the new model year swaps the previous Steel Gray for a new Pale Gray.

What a plug-in hybrid three-row SUV still gets right

The Sorento PHEV sits in a small group of three-row SUVs that let a family do most short trips and the school run on electric power alone while keeping a full-size gas tank for longer drives, without the range anxiety of a pure EV. That combination has made plug-in hybrid SUVs attractive to buyers who want to cut fuel costs and tailpipe emissions on daily errands but still want to drive to another state without planning a route around chargers.

Against rivals, a sub-$54,000 starting price for a fully loaded plug-in hybrid three-row SUV with a head-up display, premium interior trim and standard charging hardware lands at the more affordable end of the segment, even with the cheaper EX trim removed from the lineup. Kia has also kept the gas-only and hybrid Sorento available at lower price points for buyers who do not need or want a plug.

What this means if you’re shopping a Sorento

Anyone who had been waiting on a lower-cost Sorento PHEV should check with a dealer now: remaining 2026 EX-trim stock could still be available at a lower price while supplies last. Buyers moving to the 2027 model year get a single, known specification rather than a confusing trim ladder, and that makes cross-shopping against rival three-row PHEVs easier. There is no cheaper Sorento PHEV trim left to compare against on paper, so the only real decision is whether the car itself fits a buyer’s budget. Set against the segment, a fully loaded plug-in hybrid three-row SUV with a head-up display, premium interior trim and standard charging hardware for just under $54,000 lines up well against rivals like the Toyota Grand Highlander and Jeep Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrids, where a comparably equipped trim often costs several thousand dollars more. Shoppers cross-referencing those rivals should check each automaker’s own configurator for current pricing, as manufacturer figures change through the model year.

Kia notes that the Sorento is assembled in the United States, excluding the hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions, which are built elsewhere, a detail some buyers track when choosing where their vehicle and its parts come from. Buyers who qualify for federal or state plug-in hybrid incentives should confirm current eligibility with a dealer before signing. Incentive rules and amounts can change independently of the car’s sticker price, and they are not reflected in Kia’s own MSRP figures. Full specifications, including fuel economy figures for the 2027 Sorento PHEV, are available through Kia’s media site, and dealers should have pricing and configuration details for the new model year now. Anyone comparing the Sorento PHEV against the gas or standard hybrid versions should weigh the plug-in’s higher sticker price against its electric-only range for daily driving. A buyer who rarely plugs in at home will see fewer of the running-cost benefits that make the PHEV worth the premium over its stablemates.
