JAECOO 7 SHS-P Hits 828 Miles in UK Range Test, Beating WLTP by 11%

JAECOO 7 SHS-P owners now have proof their plug-in hybrid SUV can travel further than the spec sheet promises. Over two days at the UTAC Millbrook proving ground in Bedfordshire, the car covered 828 miles on a single tank and charge, beating its official WLTP figure of 745 miles by more than 11%. Its sister car, the OMODA 7 SHS-P, covered 770 miles against an official figure of just over 700.

Both SUVs are on sale now through OMODA&JAECOO’s 146-strong UK retailer network. The JAECOO 7 SHS-P starts at £35,170 on the road, and the OMODA 7 SHS-P starts at £32,005 on the road, undercutting the nearest plug-in hybrid rivals by thousands of pounds.

Inside the Range Test

OMODA&JAECOO ran the test in late June at UTAC Millbrook, a closed proving ground built to mimic real roads. The circuit combines a two-mile, five-lane banked bowl for dual-carriageway and motorway conditions with a separate hill route standing in for country roads. Fleet management firm Webfleet monitored the drive and logged data throughout both days.

Lead economy drivers Kevin Booker and Sam Clarke took turns behind the wheel. Both hold previous world records for fuel economy and energy consumption in long-range test drives. Booker drove the OMODA 7 SHS-P, joined by two other efficiency-focused colleagues, while Clarke drove the JAECOO 7 SHS-P with two more experienced drivers alongside him.

Booker described the conditions drivers faced: “Having driven the SHS-P system in the OMODA 9, where we travelled through nine countries on one tank and one charge, I knew the OMODA 7 and JAECOO 7 would have the potential to surpass their official WLTP figures. The challenge was proving it.

“This was all about demonstrating what can be achieved in these cars. What many people won’t realise is that we completed this challenge during a heatwave. Although the mileage was covered over two days at Millbrook, the time flew by behind the wheel, even at highs of 41 degrees.

“This journey has shown that, with the right mindset and the right car, you really can achieve more while using less. I’m proud to have been part of a challenge that reflects what OMODA&JAECOO stands for: innovation, efficiency and the confidence to go further than expected. It was a fantastic team effort to showcase what these cars are truly capable of.”

What Powers the Result

Both cars use OMODA&JAECOO’s fifth-generation Super Hybrid System, a plug-in hybrid setup that pairs an 18.3kWh battery with a petrol engine and switches between electric and hybrid power to preserve range. The official WLTP figures already build in a sizeable electric-only component: 56 miles per charge on both cars before the petrol engine needs to contribute at all. A driver who plugs in overnight and covers a short daily commute could complete most weekday journeys on electric power alone, then still have the fuel reserve for a longer trip at the weekend.

The JAECOO 7 has featured among the UK’s ten best-selling cars every month from September 2025 onward, with more than 46,000 sold from its January 2025 launch to now. How the Pricing Compares

Both SUVs undercut established plug-in hybrid rivals in the UK by a wide margin. The Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid, due in UK showrooms this summer, starts at £43,845, almost £9,000 more than the JAECOO 7 SHS-P. The returning Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV starts at £46,995, and its electric-only range trails at around 53 miles compared with 56 miles on both OMODA&JAECOO models. Neither rival has published an independently monitored real-world range result to match the Millbrook figures.

Warranty cover adds to the case for the two newcomers. Both models carry a 7-year/100,000-mile warranty plus an 8-year/100,000-mile warranty on the battery, matching or beating the cover offered by most mainstream rivals in the segment.

The SHS-P powertrain has become the engine of choice for buyers across both private and fleet channels, and this test gives prospective owners an independently monitored figure to weigh against the claims on the windscreen sticker rather than relying on the official WLTP number alone.
