Dodge Extends Taillamp Coverage, Reinforces Commitment to Durango Owners
  • Dodge has extended warranty coverage for the liftgate taillamp assembly on certain 2018 to 2024 Durango models to five years and unlimited miles.
  • The extension covers rear taillamp LEDs that quit working completely or light up only part way.
  • Owners who already paid to fix the problem can file for reimbursement, and affected customers get a notification letter in the mail.

Dodge Durango Owners Could Get a Free Repair or Their Money Back

Dodge is telling Durango owners to check their mailboxes. The brand has extended warranty coverage on the liftgate taillamp assembly for certain 2018 through 2024 Durango models to five years and unlimited miles from the vehicle’s in-service date, or six months from the date a customer gets notified if their car has already passed the old coverage window. Drivers who paid out of pocket for the repair before the extension might get that money back.

The move lands as the three-row SUV posts some of its strongest sales numbers in two decades, and it answers a complaint Dodge says it heard directly from owners rather than a problem flagged by regulators.

What the Warranty Extension Covers

The fix targets a specific failure in the Durango’s signature full-width taillamp strip. The LEDs inside the liftgate section stop lighting up, either completely or only part way, on certain vehicles built across the 2018 to 2024 model years. Dodge built the extended coverage after hearing from customers who ran into the problem, and the company says it will notify every affected owner directly with a letter sent by mail.

Owners do not need to do anything if their taillamp works properly. Drivers who notice the LEDs flickering or going dark, now or at any point down the road, can call their dealer to get the assembly replaced under the extended terms. No deductible or extra paperwork stands between an affected owner and the repair once Dodge confirms the vehicle falls inside the covered range.

How to Claim a Reimbursement

Owners who already paid to repair a faulty liftgate taillamp can ask for their money back. Dodge set up an online reimbursement form at fcarecallreimbursement.com, where owners submit a claim along with proof of the repair. Customers can also fill out the paper reimbursement form that came with their notification letter and mail it in with the required documents. Anyone unsure whether a past repair qualifies can call Dodge Customer Care at 1-800-4ADodge or speak with a local dealer.

This is not a safety recall tracked by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration; Dodge is treating it as a goodwill warranty extension, so there is no deadline tied to a federal order. Still, a five-year, unlimited-mile window gives most Durango owners in the affected range plenty of runway to get the part fixed for free, whether the fault shows up next month or three years from now.

Durango Sales Keep Climbing as the Fix Rolls Out

Dodge timed the announcement alongside strong sales news for the three-row SUV. Durango retail sales rose 18 percent in the third quarter of 2026 compared with the same quarter in 2025, and the model posted its best third-quarter sales total in 21 years, dating back to 2005. Full-year 2025 sales were also Durango’s best in that same 21-year stretch, up 37 percent year over year.

“Durango has carved out a unique place as America’s three-row muscle SUV, and its signature racetrack taillamp is an unmistakable part of its identity,” said Matt McAlear, Dodge CEO. “This warranty extension is about standing behind our vehicles, supporting our owners and reinforcing the confidence they place in Dodge.”

The racetrack taillamp McAlear points to is not a small styling detail on this SUV. The strip of LEDs runs the full width of the liftgate, and it has defined the look of every Durango from the current body style onward, carrying through to the current GT, R/T 392 and 710-horsepower SRT Hellcat models. A taillamp fault on a part this visible is the kind of problem owners notice the first time they back out of a driveway at dusk.

What It Means for Your Next Repair Bill

Taillamp assemblies on modern SUVs are not cheap to replace, and the Durango’s full-width light bar is not a part most independent shops keep in stock. An owner facing this LED fault outside the old warranty window would normally pay for the full liftgate-mounted unit out of pocket, plus labor to fit it. The extension removes that cost for eligible owners outright, and the reimbursement option means a repair paid for last year, or even several years back, is not necessarily money lost.

Owners who bought a used 2018 to 2024 Durango without a full service history should check with a dealer to confirm their vehicle identification number falls inside the covered range before assuming either way. Dodge says it is notifying affected owners directly, but a direct call to a dealer or to Dodge Customer Care settles the question faster than waiting on a letter that might already be on its way, or might not be coming at all if a specific vehicle was never built with the affected part.

For a model that just posted its best sales year in two decades, a free fix for a cosmetic but conspicuous fault is a relatively small price for Dodge to pay to keep Durango owners happy with a vehicle they chose, in part, for exactly the look the brand is now moving to protect.
