MINI Points the Countryman at the Trailhead

MINI is adding an off-road trim to its biggest model. The Countryman Untamed Edition raises the ride height, swaps in all-terrain tires and adds the kind of underbody protection a gravel road actually calls for, rather than the styling-only trim packages that usually carry an off-road-sounding badge and little else.

“Today, our customers are looking for a vehicle that supports them in everyday life just as confidently as it does on spontaneous getaways and longer journeys,” said Jean-Philippe Parain, head of the MINI brand. “That is exactly what inspired the Untamed Edition. It combines the hallmark MINI driving experience with even greater freedom to explore new places and discover more along the way.”

Off-road trims have become a common move across the industry, from the Subaru Wilderness lineup to Toyota’s TRD Off-Road badge. What sets this one apart is how much of the change happens underneath the car rather than in a sticker pack. The suspension lift and tire swap change how the Countryman actually handles a dirt road or a snow-covered driveway, not just how it looks parked outside a trailhead.

What Actually Changes Underneath

The Untamed Edition gets a 15-millimeter suspension lift paired with newly developed Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tires on exclusive 19-inch wheels, raising ground clearance by up to 19 millimeters depending on market and powertrain. MINI recalibrated the ABS, stability control and steering for the new suspension setup and tire combination, and paired it with the brand’s ALL4 all-wheel-drive system.

In the US, the suspension lift is available across all Untamed Edition variants; in Europe, MINI is reserving it for the all-electric models only. A factory-installed trailer hitch comes standard in the US, rated to tow up to 3,500 pounds, which covers a small camping trailer or a pair of jet skis but not much more. Roof load capacity runs up to 165 pounds while driving and 661 pounds when the car is parked, enough for a roof box or the optional roof tent MINI built with Italian outdoor brand AUTOHOME.

The 661-pound stationary rating is what makes the roof tent option work. A two-person hard-shell tent, the mattress inside it and the people sleeping in it can add up fast, and a car rated too low for that combination turns an overnight trip into a safety problem instead of a convenience. MINI designed the Untamed Edition’s roof rails around that use case specifically, rather than borrowing a rating from the standard Countryman.

Pricing and What’s Included

The 2027 MINI Countryman S ALL4 Untamed Edition starts at $43,900, including the $1,350 destination and handling charge, which puts the base MSRP at $38,900 with the Untamed Edition content added at $1,600. That package covers the suspension lift, the 19-inch wheels and all-terrain tires, exterior trim finished in Dark Steel, the Vescin Nightshade Blue sport seats, and the trailer hitch.

Buyers can add the Iconic Trim with Comfort Package Plus for $3,400. Standalone options include the Comfort Package Max at $900, a universal garage door opener at $250, and a space-saver spare tire at $300. MINI has not announced pricing for the electric Countryman SE ALL4 Untamed Edition, which will arrive in the same body style and trim.

That $43,900 all-in figure lands above a gas-powered Subaru Outback Wilderness, which starts closer to $39,000, and below most three-row off-road-trimmed SUVs. For a two-row compact crossover with this level of hardware underneath, the price sits roughly where MINI’s badge and the Pirelli tire upgrade alone would put it, before counting the suspension work.

Colors, Cabin and the Camping Gear Tie-In

MINI built three exterior colors specifically for this trim: Hideaway Grey, Nomad Blue and Frozen Nomad Blue, the last of which is the first matte paint finish MINI has put into series production. Nanuq White and Midnight Black carry over from the standard range. Inside, the seats use perforated Vescin upholstery with a knitted pattern MINI says is inspired by rock formations, and the interior trim switches from the usual Vibrant Silver to Dark Steel throughout.

MINI also partnered with outdoor gear brand HELINOX on a camping collection of folding chairs and tables that match the Untamed Edition’s design, sold separately from the car. The AUTOHOME roof tent is handcrafted in Italy and opens using gas struts rather than the manual setup common on cheaper roof tents.

When It Arrives

Production begins in November 2026 at BMW Group’s Leipzig plant, with a global launch set for early 2027. US buyers will be able to order the Countryman S ALL4 Untamed Edition first, with the electric SE ALL4 version following. MINI began selling cars in the US in 2002 and fields five models here now, making the Countryman its largest and, with this edition, its most off-road-capable.
