Jeep has opened orders for the 2027 Wrangler Smoky Mountain special edition, a new trim that costs just $80 more than a comparably equipped Wrangler Willys. The company unveiled the four-door package on August 20 at Smoky Mountain Invasion in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, an annual gathering that draws close to 50,000 Jeep owners and around 20,000 Jeep vehicles.

The Smoky Mountain is the 10th special edition in Jeep’s Twelve 4 Twelve series, a run of themed Wrangler trims tied to owner events around the country. It builds on the Wrangler Willys platform and is available now with either the 2.0-liter or 3.6-liter automatic powertrain.

What You Get for $80

The price premium is small, but the parts list is not. Jeep fits the Smoky Mountain with a body-color hardtop and fender flares, Gloss Black seven-slot grille, and 17-inch wheels finished in a smoky black shade meant to echo the mist that settles over the mountains the trim is named for. Standard tires are 33-inch BFGoodrich KO2 All-Terrain, with a 35-inch option for buyers who want more clearance.

Underneath, the Smoky Mountain carries the hardware that makes a Wrangler capable off road rather than just styled to look the part: steel rock rails, Dana 44 front and rear axles, a locking rear differential and a 4.10 axle ratio, plus a trailer hitch as standard equipment. Buyers who want to go topless can add the Sky One-touch power top as an option.

An Interior Built Around a 1941 Reference

Inside, Jeep swapped in Premium Black Ferndale cloth seats with a textured finish and deeper side bolsters than the regular Willys trim, stitched with Terracotta thread and metallic Blaze Orange accents. The upper seat bolsters carry an embossed graphic of a 1941 Willys parachute, a nod to the Jeep’s military origins that shows up again on the rear swing gate plaque, set against a star-filled night sky design.

The shifter medallion is finished in gray metallic and satin chrome with a mama bear and cub graphic, a detail pulled from the wildlife around the Great Smoky Mountains. Standard comfort features include heated seats, a heated steering wheel, automatic dual-zone temperature control and a universal garage door opener, all items that would cost extra as standalone options on other trims.

A Familiar Formula for Jeep Owners

Jeep has used the Twelve 4 Twelve series to turn owner meetups into product launches, releasing a themed special edition at a different community event roughly once a month. Smoky Mountain Invasion has run for 14 years and has grown into one of the largest annual gatherings for Jeep enthusiasts, drawing custom builds and aftermarket vendors alongside factory-fresh trucks.

Jeep brand CEO Branden Coté tied the new trim directly to the event it debuted at. “Few places capture the spirit of the Jeep brand quite like Smoky Mountain Invasion,” Coté said. “This event brings together thousands of members of the Jeep community who share a passion for adventure, freedom and the outdoors. The Wrangler Smoky Mountain special edition celebrates that connection, honoring the people, the place and the passion that make this gathering so special, while delivering the legendary capability, open-air freedom and personalization that define every Jeep Wrangler.”

For shoppers, the appeal of a special edition like this comes down to getting a specific look and a handful of standard comfort features bundled in for close to no added cost over a well-equipped Willys. Jeep has not said how long the Smoky Mountain package will stay on sale or how many units it plans to build, so buyers who want the wildlife-themed shifter medallion and the parachute graphic on the seats will want to order before the next Twelve 4 Twelve edition replaces it on dealer lots.

How the Pricing Compares

Most Wrangler special editions carry a markup of a few thousand dollars over the trim they are based on, once buyers factor in the cosmetic package and any bundled options. Setting the Smoky Mountain at $80 over a comparably equipped Willys puts it closer to a free upgrade than a paid one. Heated seats, a heated steering wheel and automatic climate control come standard rather than sold as a separate add-on group, which normally adds hundreds of dollars to a Wrangler build sheet on its own.

The trade-off is scarcity. Twelve 4 Twelve editions are tied to a single event and typically stay on order books for a limited run before Jeep moves on to the next themed release, so dealer stock varies by region and tends to sell through faster than standard Willys trims. Buyers who miss the ordering window on the Smoky Mountain will likely need to wait for the 11th installment in the series, expected at Jeep’s next major owner gathering.
