2027 Toyota Sequoia Adds Trailhunter Package and 14-Inch Touchscreen

Toyota has confirmed the first wave of changes coming to the 2027 Sequoia, its full-size SUV, and the headline addition is a factory-built Trailhunter package aimed at buyers who want off-road hardware without a trip to the aftermarket. Toyota is holding back full pricing until closer to the start of production this fall, but the automaker has released enough detail on the new package, styling and cabin technology to show shoppers what changes and what stays the same.

The Sequoia continues in six grades: SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition, TRD Pro and Capstone, giving buyers a wide spread from a work-focused entry SUV to a near-luxury flagship. The Trailhunter package sits on top of the SR5 grade rather than replacing it, so buyers pick the trim first and add the off-road kit as a build option.

What the Trailhunter Package Actually Adds

Based on the SR5 grade, the Trailhunter package bundles Michelin LTX Trail 265/70R18 tires, an Old Man Emu upgraded suspension, front recovery hooks and extra underbody protection for buyers who plan to leave paved roads regularly. Toyota also adds Multi-Terrain Select, Crawl Control and a locking rear differential to the package, three systems that hand the driver more control over how power reaches the wheels on loose or uneven surfaces.

Bronze-colored wheels and unique badges mark out a Trailhunter-equipped Sequoia from the rest of the lineup. Toyota positions the package as a way to make genuine overlanding capability available straight from the factory, without owners sourcing a suspension lift or recovery gear from a third party after the sale.

Lighting gets an upgrade to match the rest of the Trailhunter hardware. The grille-mounted LED light bar switches to a brighter output, and RIGID fog lights are available for low-light off-road driving. Combined with the front recovery hooks, the changes are aimed squarely at owners who take the Sequoia off pavement rather than buyers who just like the look of a truck-based SUV.

A Sharper Front End and a Bigger Screen

Toyota’s CALTY design studio in Ann Arbor, Michigan reworked the Sequoia’s front end around a horizontal, wider stance. The grille and bumper pick up a new interpretation of Toyota’s truck styling, rectangular fog lights sit inside the bumper itself, and select grades swap in a reworked chrome treatment intended to read as less rugged and more finished at a glance.

Inside, the Sequoia moves to Toyota’s newest Audio Multimedia system, now running on a standard 14-inch touchscreen, up from the previous generation’s smaller display. The system adds 5G connectivity, customizable home-screen widgets and a quicker-responding “Hey Toyota” voice assistant. A built-in dash cam is standard for the first time, recording 20-second clips from the vehicle’s exterior cameras when triggered by an event or started manually.

Digital Key also gets an update for 2027. Owners can now lock, unlock and start the Sequoia from a compatible phone’s native digital wallet app, not just the Toyota app itself, and can share access with up to five other drivers directly through that wallet. Toyota says the near-field communication link keeps working for a period after the phone’s battery runs out.

Safety Tech and What Toyota Hasn’t Said Yet

The 2027 Sequoia moves up to Toyota Safety Sense 4.0, an updated version of the brand’s standard driver-assist suite with revised hardware and detection range. The package covers pre-collision braking with pedestrian detection, full-speed adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, lane tracing assist and road sign recognition, all standard across every grade rather than gated to the top trims. The suite also watches the speed of traffic ahead and warns the driver early when it detects the vehicle in front slowing down.

A 2.4kW onboard inverter carries over for powering camping gear, tools or a tailgate setup directly from the vehicle, without a separate portable generator. Toyota has not released pricing, powertrain details or a full features list broken down by grade, and says a complete announcement will land closer to the Sequoia’s fall 2026 production start. Buyers cross-shopping the Sequoia against the Chevrolet Tahoe or Ford Expedition will need to wait a few more months before they can compare sticker prices directly, though the confirmed feature list already gives a clear sense of where Toyota is aiming the update.

Toyota has confirmed the ownership basics regardless of what final pricing looks like. The Sequoia carries a 36-month/36,000-mile basic warranty, a 60-month/60,000-mile powertrain warranty and corrosion coverage with no mileage cap. Hybrid components get 8 years or 100,000 miles of coverage, and the hybrid battery itself is covered for 10 years or 150,000 miles, transferable if the SUV changes hands. A year of ToyotaCare scheduled maintenance and two years of roadside assistance come standard with every new Sequoia.
