2027 Toyota Crown Hybrid Adds Fifth-Gen System, Priced From $41,640

Toyota has released full pricing and specifications for the 2027 Crown, and the sedan-crossover hybrid starts at $41,640 for the base XLE grade and tops out at $55,190 for the performance-focused Platinum. Every grade keeps standard all-wheel drive, a feature few rivals bundle in at this price point without an added charge.

The 2027 changes center on a new hybrid system across three of the four grades, sharper exterior styling with a new black paint option, and a longer list of standard driver-assist technology on the upper trims. Buyers cross-shopping midsize hybrid sedans, or looking at a raised alternative to something like the Honda Accord Hybrid, get a fifth grade choice with a stance no direct rival matches.

Pricing and the Four-Grade Lineup

Toyota sells the Crown in four trims for 2027: XLE at $41,640, Nightshade at $48,965, Limited at $49,720 and Platinum at $55,190. Those figures exclude a $1,295 destination and handling charge Toyota adds to every configuration, so shoppers should budget for an out-the-door number closer to $42,935 on the entry XLE.

All four grades come with all-wheel drive as standard equipment, a detail that separates the Crown from hybrid sedan rivals that charge extra for it or skip it entirely. Toyota builds the Crown at its Tsutsumi plant in Japan and covers the hybrid battery for 10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first, with coverage that transfers to a second owner.

A New Hybrid System and a More Powerful Platinum

Toyota carries over the Crown’s lifted sedan silhouette but swaps in a fifth-generation hybrid system, badged THS 5, across the XLE, Limited and Nightshade grades. The setup pairs a 2.5-liter gas engine with front and rear electric motors and returns an EPA-estimated 40 mpg combined. Those three grades also gain standard paddle shifters, aimed at drivers who want more say over how the continuously variable transmission behaves under acceleration.

The Platinum grade skips THS 5 for the Hybrid MAX powertrain, a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine matched to a six-speed automatic transmission. It makes 340 net combined horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, and Toyota pairs it with a Full-Time Electronic all-wheel-drive system built around an eAxle that shifts power front to rear as conditions change. Every grade gets four selectable drive modes: Normal, Eco, Sport and Custom. Platinum buyers also get a Rear Comfort mode that softens the suspension tune for rear-seat passengers.

The XLE, Limited and Nightshade grades run an Electronic On-Demand all-wheel-drive system, using a separate rear-mounted electric motor to send power to the rear wheels only when the front wheels start to lose grip. That setup keeps fuel economy closer to a front-drive car most of the time while still giving traction on wet or loose surfaces. Suspension across those three grades pairs a MacPherson strut front end with a multilink rear and swing valve shock absorbers, while the Platinum grade runs an Adaptive Variable Suspension tuned specifically around the turbocharged Hybrid MAX powertrain.

Styling Changes and Interior Colors

The 2027 Crown gains a newly sculpted rear bumper for a tighter silhouette across the whole lineup. Exterior colors now include Inked, a new black finish, alongside Oxygen White, Bronze Age, Heavy Metal, Finish Line Red and Storm Cloud. Hybrid and all-wheel-drive badges switch to a satin finish, and the Platinum grade adds red brake calipers and a black belt window surround as standard fitment rather than an option buyers have to hunt for.

Platinum’s bi-tone paint scheme returns for 2027 with a body-colored trunk that pairs against a black roof, offered with Oxygen White, Heavy Metal, Finish Line Red or Bronze Age. The Nightshade edition adds new black badge overlays to its dark-themed treatment. Inside, the Limited grade now offers full Saddle Tan leather seating, and Platinum adds the same Saddle Tan as a new option, both pairable with the Bronze Age exterior.

Technology, Safety and Ownership Costs

Every 2027 Crown comes with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The XLE grade gets a six-speaker system, while Limited, Nightshade and Platinum step up to an 11-speaker JBL Premium Audio setup with a rear subwoofer. Limited grade now adds a Panoramic View Monitor, Traffic Jam Assist capability and Digital Key as standard, features that used to require a higher trim or an options package on the outgoing model.

Standard safety equipment across the range includes Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, covering pre-collision braking with pedestrian detection, full-speed adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist and automatic high beams. Toyota backs the Crown with a 36-month/36,000-mile basic warranty, a 60-month/60,000-mile powertrain warranty and one year of complimentary scheduled maintenance through ToyotaCare, plus two years of roadside assistance.

Buyers also get a batch of connected-service trials bundled with the purchase: five years each of Safety Connect, Service Connect and Remote Connect, a three-month trial of Drive Connect and a 30-day, 3GB trial of Wi-Fi Connect. Traffic Jam Assist requires an active Drive Connect subscription once the trial period runs out, and Digital Key needs an active Remote Connect subscription, so buyers who want to keep using either feature long-term should factor a renewal cost into their ownership budget.

2027 Toyota Crown interior

The 2027 Toyota Crown reaches dealers with pricing and specifications already locked in, unlike some rivals that hold back full details until closer to launch. Buyers comparing a hybrid sedan against a compact crossover get a strong case from the Crown’s standard all-wheel drive and 40 mpg rating on three of its four grades.
