Today at Graham Rahal Performance (GRP), LYNX Motors announced the immediate availability of a street-legal version of the Ford Matech Concepts GT1 Le Mans race car, originally fielded by Matech GT Racing of Geneva, Switzerland, in 2010. In partnership with LYNX Motors of Austin, Texas, GRP will produce 28 examples of the GT1 Le Mans at their state-of-the-art facility in Zionsville, IN.

“I’m beyond excited for our company to be involved in something like the GT1 Project, not only to help bring this automobile to market but also manufacture it at our facility in Indianapolis. It’s an iconic car in its own right, but creating a high-quality, modern version of what the Ford GT40 was at its peak gives us something to be very proud of. I’m very fortunate and proud that Lynx thought of us for this project, as it validates and justifies the investment that we’ve made in our facility here in Zionsville, and I’m extremely excited to get the project underway,” said Graham Rahal, owner and founder of Graham Rahal Performance.

Owning a Piece of Racing History

Known for its epic Le Mans racing battle with Ferrari in the mid-60s, the GT40 was Ford’s answer to the Italian manufacturer. The GT40 dominated Le Mans for four consecutive years with victories from 1966-1969.  To this day, the GT40 is the only American-made vehicle to ever win the 24-hour race.  Revived in 2002 with the design of Camilo Pardo, the Ford GT entered production from 2004 to 2006, with only 4,050 units built.  In 2010, Matech GT Racing fielded another run at the Le Mans 24-hour race with the GT1 Le Mans racing version.  An aggressive derivative of the GT with a wider stance, carbon fiber body, and aerodynamic enhancements, the GT1 was unmistakably bred for performance.

LYNX motors is allocating 28 bespoke, street-legal versions of the GT1, now offering them with a Supercharged V8 with a target performance of over 1,200 HP paired with a Ricardo 6-Speed Manual transmission.

“We are very proud to be able to offer this amazing piece of race history, constructed by the premier racing family at GRP, Graham Rahal Performance” said Rod Keller, CEO of LYNX Motors.

“Our partnership with Graham Rahal’s team at GRP will ensure every vehicle is hand crafted with the best engineering and development for such an undertaking.  Together, we will ensure our client’s bespoke designed GT1 will be produced at the highest quality level possible” said Jeff Jennings, Chief Revenue Officer at Lynx Motors.
