Video: Million-dollar Ferrari loses tyre on freeway, ignored by clueless driver

The driver of a Ferrari SF90 Stradale has been filmed losing a tyre on a freeway in the USA but shows no indication of being aware of the risky and dangerous situation.

The footage, shared on Instagram, shows the blue SF90 driving along Route 73 near Newport in Southern California. The rear-left tyre of the supercar is seen to be deflated and smoking as the car continues to drive at speed.

The tyre finally detaches from the rim and is jettisoned into traffic, when the clip ends.

In Australia, the 735kW petrol-electric hybrid Ferrari SF90 is priced from $AU846,888 before on-road costs, but the car in the video looks to feature the Assetto Fiorano package which adds at least another $AU100,000 to the price tag before any unique paint or personalisation options are taken into account.

The SF90 is available as a coupe (Stradale) or convertible (Spider – below), with a retractable hard-top roof.

The video has been filmed from a Lamborghini Huracan Spyder and a Porsche 911 GT2 RS can briefly be seen at the start of the video, suggesting the Ferrari is likely travelling as part of a group.

However, as indicated by the speed of other traffic, the SF90 does not look to be slowing or even making an attempt to pull over. The stretch of freeway seen in the video has four traffic lanes, but also an emergency lane on both the left and right side.

It is not known if the SF90 was fitted with an integrated Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, but the sound and vibration of the tyre coming apart should be enough of a warning to the driver.

What’s worse is that the car looks to be fitted with the $US54,000 ($AU84,000) Australian-made carbon-fibre wheel option, which will make the repairs significantly more expensive than if the driver had pulled over with the flat tyre still on the rim.
