Porsche getting ready to reveal the next step in its evolution

Porsche is set to provide a “vision of the sports car of the future” as part of an upcoming online event on June 8.

The hour-long event, called “75 Years of Porsche Sports Cars“, will be split into five acts where the German sports carmaker will “explore the themes of heritage, zeitgeist, performance, pioneering spirit and dreams”.

It’s celebrating 75 years since the company received the general operating permit for its original 356 No.1 Roadster.

At this stage it’s unclear what Porsche will show off during this event but seeing it states it’s a “vision of the sports car of the future”, this points towards it being a concept car rather than a production vehicle.

Porsche has revealed quite a number of Vision concept cars over the last few years, with the most recent being the Vision 357.

What Porsche shows off will likely be electrified as the brand has previously said it expects 80 per cent of total sales to be of fully electric vehicles by the end of the decade.

Porsche has confirmed the current 718 Cayman and Boxster, now based on a seven-year old platform, will be replaced by an electric equivalent in 2024 or 2025 – exactly when will be determined by emission regulations.

A number of camouflaged prototypes have been spied over the last few months.

Other vehicles Porsche is currently working on include the heritage-inspired 911 ST, hybrid 911 GT2 RS, Macan EV, Cayenne EV, and a large electric crossover codenamed J1.

While it would be nice for Porsche to preview a successor to its last hypercar, the hybrid 918 Spyder, this is unlikely as it might not arrive until 2028 or 2029.

Porsche executive board member for research and development, Michael Steiner, recently told MotorTrend the brand is working on next-generation batteries with subsidiary company Cellforce Group to be showcased within two years.

Work on an electric hypercar reportedly won’t begin until these batteries are ready to be used in road cars.
