Chery Australia has quietly increased pricing by between $100-$1000 on its Omoda 5 range as it moves to nationwide drive-away pricing as of June 1.

“Following our launch, we have adjusted our pricing and moved to a nationwide drive-away pricing for June,” a spokesperson from Chery Australia told CarExpert.

There are no changes to the vehicle to coincide with the price change.

The spokesperson didn’t confirm whether these prices, or unified nationwide drive-away pricing in general, will continue beyond June 30.

When the Omoda 5 went on sale earlier this year in Australia, pricing varied depending on state-to-state on-road costs.

Customers from Victoria were paying the highest drive-away price while customers from the ACT were offered the cheapest drive-away pricing.

The base BX is now priced at $32,990 drive-away, an increase of $300 for Victorian buyers, $600 for those in Tasmania and Western Australia, $700 for South Australia, $800 for New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory, and $1000 for the Australian Capital Territory.

The EX is now priced at $35,990 drive-away, up $100 on the previous price in Victoria, $300 in WA, $400 in Tasmania, $500 in NSW, QLD and SA, $600 in the NT, and $800 in the ACT.

Chery will expand the Omoda 5 range later this year with a pair of variants packing a more powerful engine, one of which will offer all-wheel drive.

The EX+ and EX+ AWD will pack a turbo 1.6-litre four producing 145kW of power and 290Nm of torque, up 30kW and 60Nm on the turbo 1.5-litre in the BX and EX.

They’ll also swap torsion beam rear suspension for a multi-link set-up, and ditch the continuously variable transmission for a seven-speed dual-clutch auto.

Chery will also launch an electric Omoda 5 in the first half of 2024, to serve as a rival for the MG ZS EV and BYD Atto 3.

Omoda 5 EV

It will feature a 61kWh battery, with a claimed range of 450km based on a WLTP cycle.

Power will come from a single electric motor producing 150kW of power and 340Nm of torque. It will be capable of V2L (vehicle to load) charging, which allows you to use the vehicle’s battery to power appliances.

Chery has sold 1009 Omoda 5 vehicles since its launch earlier this year. It has outsold the Honda HR-V (795), Jeep Compass (648), Renault Arkana (575) and Skoda Kamiq (784) so far in 2023.

The Omoda 5 has, however, been outsold by the GWM Haval Jolion (4458) and MG ZS (9823).
