A closer look at the quirks and new tech inside the Tesla Cybertruck

At this stage there’s still a lot we don’t know about the forthcoming Tesla Cybertruck, though a new video has provided some more insights into the electric pickup’s interior.

A minute-long video uploaded to YouTube by vlad vein shows a person sitting in the driver’s seat of the Cybertruck and taking a look at the electric pickup’s features. It’s unclear how this individual was able to film and upload this video to social media.

The Cybertruck receives a landscape-oriented touchscreen infotainment system like the rest of the current Tesla range, though it receives a dedicated user interface (UI) with different font, icons and graphics.

The app dock is also on the left-hand side unlike the Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X which all have the app dock at the bottom of the infotainment touchscreen.

You need to swipe on the touchscreen to select drive or reverse, with the controls found on the top left-hand corner of the infotainment screen. The Model S, Model X, as well as the recently updated Model 3 on the other hand dedicates the entire side of the screen to this function.

Besides the infotainment system, the video also shows us the Cybertruck receives dual wireless chargers on the centre console, plus an open storage section where the transmission tunnel would typically be in a combustion-powered car.

The Cybertruck also receives sunshades like the Model X with an additional section that flips down to block out more of the sun. Interestingly it appears the driver’s sunshade doesn’t have a mirror.

As seen in a previous video, the second row of the Cybertruck has a fold-down centre armrest with two octagonal cupholders. It’s also understood to receive a central screen like the Model 3 just received with its recent update.

Tesla previously said it plans to commence customer deliveries of the Cybertruck in the third quarter of this year, though it’s now technically the fourth quarter. It’s still yet to officially deliver the first example.

Electrek reports the first examples are expected to go to Tesla employees.

The US electric vehicle carmaker expects to ramp up to full-scale production of the Cybertruck at its Texas Gigafactory during 2024.

US customers have been able to pre-order the electric pickup for quite some time.

Tesla claims the electric ute will boast up to 804km of range and be able to achieve a 0-60mph (0-96km/h) time of 2.9 seconds.

According to the carmaker’s US website, the Cybertruck will feature a 1587kg payload, towing capacity of over 6300kg, and 2831 litres of storage space spread out through the ute’s tub, interior and frunk.

The latter appears to offer customers less space than the Ford F-150 LightningChevrolet Silverado EVGMC Hummer EV, and Rivian R1T.

Due to repeated delays, the Cybertruck is now going on sale after rivals like the R1T and F-150 Lightning.
