The front tow hook – or “recovery point” – could detach from certain versions of the new Mercedes-Benz GLC.

The latest Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV has been recalled in Australia because the front tow hook – also known as a “recovery point” – could become detached from the vehicle.

The 944 affected examples of the vehicle in Australia are stamped Model Years 2023 and 2022 – even though Australian deliveries of the new GLC did not commence until early 2023.

“The connection depth of the front towing point may not meet manufacturing specifications. As a result, the front tow point connection could detach from the vehicle during frontal towing,” the recall notice says.

“If the front tow point detaches from the vehicle during use, it will increase the risk of serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, bystanders and other road users.

“When parts become available, Mercedes-Benz will contact affected owners in writing requesting they make an appointment with their nearest authorised Mercedes-Benz dealership to have the work carried free of charge.”

A spokesperson for Mercedes-Benz Australia told Drive the ACCC prevents manufacturers from disclosing if vehicles have been impacted locally. All owners are urged to have their car repaired.
