Amazon Prime Video being delivered direct to Volvo, Polestar cars

Have you ever needed something to help you kill time while recharging your vehicle, or been bored waiting to pick up a loved one? Volvo and Polestar have a solution.

In markets where Google apps and services are available such as Australia, you can now download Amazon’s streaming service Prime Video.

The brand rolled out YouTube to its Polestar 2 in June, and now Prime is following.

Both apps will be available to download in Volvos from September 18, with YouTube to also come pre-installed as part of an over-the-air update.

Volvo and Polestar cars use Google’s Android Automotive operating system with Google built-in, with Polestar being the first automotive brand to debut the operating system in 2019.

The two brands aren’t the only ones to start offering streaming and video services in their cars.

Tesla is ahead of most brands, offering owners the ability to watch YouTube, Disney+ and Netflix.

BMW is piloting Bundesliga content – including match highlights and selected live content – on its 7 Series in Germany, with other regions in Europe, America and Asia set to follow suit.

Audi is also entering this space, with the German marque confirming YouTube is now available to download for “selected” models, with other Volkswagen Group brands to follow.

The first Audi models to offer compatibility with the new YouTube application will be the A4, A5, Q5, A6, A7, A8, Q8 e-tron and e-tron GT from the 2024 model year. Vehicles need to be fitted with the optional data link system and the Audi app store.
