A limited-run green Kia EV6 edition looks to have taken the title of the longest name ever applied to an electric vehicle, at 56 characters – and 11 words.

A new special-edition vehicle unveiled by South Korean car giant Kia appears to have taken the title of the longest name ever given to an electric car.

The Kia EV6 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year Limited Edition is a special model limited to 1000 examples designed to celebrate the Kia winning the SUV category in the North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year awards.

With 56 characters – excluding spaces – the name given to the EV6 special edition is believed to be the longest of any electric car.

It is not the longest car name of all-time; the BMW Individual M760i xDrive Model V12 Excellence The Next 100 Years includes one more character, at 57.

The 1000 vehicles will be produced exclusively for the US market, and will not come to Australia.

Differentiating the special edition from the regular Kia EV6 in the US is Deep Forest Green paint – which is available on standard models in Europe – plus Desert Beige tan seat upholstery, and a unique badge next to the gear selector.

It mixes the regular exterior styling pack of the middle-of-the-range EV6 Wind, with the 20-inch wheels, sunroof, sports steering wheel, and some additional convenience and safety features from the more expensive GT-Line model in the US.

Powering the vehicle is a 77.4kWh battery pack driving 74kW front and 165kW rear electric motors, developing 239kW combined for a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 5.2 seconds in equivalent Australian models.

The Kia EV6 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year Limited Edition is due in US showrooms later this year, after making its public debut during Monterey Car Week in California in recent days.

It remains to be seen if the green paint and tan interior come to Australia in regular models at a later date.
