The 2021-2023 Mitsubishi Outlander is affected by an electronic fault which could cause the vehicle’s rear-view camera to not function correctly.

A rear-view camera fault has prompted the recall of more than 25,000 Mitsubishi Outlanders sold in Australia between late 2021 and 2023.

The rear-view camera in the 25,653 affected Mitsubishis – which includes both petrol and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) Outlander variants – can cause images on the infotainment screen to be disrupted, increasing the risk of an accident.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: “Due to a software issue, the rear-view camera image may be temporarily disrupted when reversing.

“If the rear-view camera display does not continually display the rear-view image when reversing the vehicle, it could increase the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to any persons located behind the vehicle.”

The recall affects almost all examples of the current-generation Mitsubishi Outlander, which arrived in Australian showrooms in November 2021 in petrol guise – followed by the Outlander PHEV in August 2022.

A full list of vehicle identification numbers for the 25,653 vehicles involved in the recall can be found here.

Mitsubishi Australia has advised it will contact owners by mail, requesting they present their vehicle to their preferred Mitsubishi Motors Dealership to have the software updated free of charge.

Alternatively, owners can contact the Mitsubishi Motors Customer Service by phone on 1300 131 211 or via email at [email protected].
