2024 Kia EV9 price guide released

Pricing for the 2024 Kia EV9 has been announced in South Korea, the country where the electric SUV hails from.

Kia has priced the entry-level EV9 from 78.1 million won (including taxes), or slightly above the smaller EV6 GT performance car which starts at 77.3 million won (also including taxes).

In Australia, the EV6 GT is priced from $AU99,590 before on-road costs – which would suggest a base price locally in excess of $AU100,000.

However it is believed there is a chance it could cost less than that – and drop below six figures – before on-road costs in Australia when the EV9 goes on sale later this year.

The drive-away price may still crest $100,000 across the range, once government fees and dealer delivery charges are included.

Kia Australia is not due to announce prices for a number of months, though it has advised the base EV9 will not fall under the Luxury Car Tax threshold, which rises to $89,332 for fuel-efficient vehicles from 1 July 2023, up from $84,916.

At 112.4 million won, the range-topping EV9 in South Korea is more than 55 per cent dearer than the base variant – roughly equating to $AU155,000.

Standard features and specifications on local variants could also differ from the South Korean models, which is likely to alter pricing in Australia.

As previously reported by Drive, early data gathered from pre-orders and expressions of interest show the large electric SUV has drawn significant interest from some of Australia’s wealthiest suburbs.

Overseas specifications of the EV9 were announced in late March 2023, with the large electric SUV offering up to 541 kilometres of driving range on a single charge, semi-autonomous driving technology, and a configurable cabin with up to seven seats.

Though Australian models haven’t been locked-in at this stage, in other markets the EV9 is available with two different battery sizes across three models – the EV9 RWD Standard Range with a 76.1kWh battery, the EV9 RWD Long Range with a 99.8kWh battery, and the EV9 All-Wheel-Drive model, also with a 99.8kWh battery.

A high-performance EV9 GT is on its way, but Kia says the variant won’t be launching until early 2025.

Inside, a mixture of ‘vegan’ (synthetic) and recycled materials have been used – derived from more than 70 plastic bottles and discarded fishing nets – while a pair of 12.3-inch screens have been used for the digital instrument cluster and infotainment controls, along with a 5.0-inch display for heating and air conditioning.

Buyers overseas can option either six or seven seats (2+2+2 or 2+3+2), with Kia claiming the third row of seats can comfortably accommodate a passenger up to 182cm tall.

Dimensionally, the Kia EV9 is 5010mm long, 1980mm wide, 1755mm tall, and runs on a 3100mm wheelbase, with a choice of wheel ranging from 19 to 21 inches.

Along with Highway Driving Pilot technology – which Kia says allows the EV9 to navigate and change lanes in limited circumstances, providing the driver with a “temporary break from controlling the vehicle”, though with their eyes still on the road ahead – the EV9 is available with remote-controlled parking, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, lane-keep assist, and traffic sign recognition.
