Introduced in late 2020, the Toyota Yaris Cross sits at the bottom of the SUV line-up for the Japanese carmaker, slotting in below the larger C-HR and Corolla Cross.

UPDATE, 02/09/2023 – Toyota Australia has increased the asking price of the entire Yaris Cross range as part of a wider range price adjustment.

“Toyota Australia reluctantly took the decision to increase the recommended retail prices (RRP) for most of our range, effective 1 July 2023,” said a Toyota Australia spokesperson.

“We provided our dealers with the information ahead of implementation to assist them in managing their business and communicating openly and transparently with customers regarding vehicles to be delivered after that date.

GR Sport

“The increases are due to increased costs and inflationary pressures outside of our control such as more expensive raw materials, labour, tooling and packaging which are feeding into higher manufacturing costs.”

Pricing now starts at $28,000 before on-road costs for the petrol-powered 2WD Yaris Cross GX and tops out at $39,000 before on-road costs for the Yaris Cross AWD Urban hybrid.

Based on the same platform as the Yaris hatch, the Yaris Cross serves as Toyota’s rival to the likes of the Ford Puma and Volkswagen T-Cross.

Toyota offers the Yaris Cross with both petrol and hybrid powertrains with the latter setting you back an additional $2000 over the petrol engine.

The Yaris Cross is also offered in all-wheel drive hybrid guise for an additional $3000 on top of the hybrid two-wheel drive.

A GR Sport variant joined the Yaris Cross range for 2023.

It has no changes to its powertrain but has retuned suspension that’s said to help sharpen steering feel and response, as well as reduce body roll.

It’s available exclusively with the hybrid powertrain and front-wheel drive.
