New Tiguan model offers additional power and more dynamic handling

A powerful and dynamic petrol version of Volkswagen’s top-selling Tiguan goes on sale in the UK on 15 August.

The Tiguan R-Line 2.0 TSI 265 PS, with an automatic seven-speed direct-shift gearbox (DSG) and 4MOTION all-wheel drive, becomes the most powerful petrol Tiguan on sale in the UK. It sits at the top of the Tiguan range alongside the R-Line 272 PS eHybrid with its 1.5 TSI engine and six-speed DSG.

The new variant adds 4MOTION all-wheel drive and comes as standard with Volkswagen’s enhanced adaptive chassis control system, DCC Pro. This optimises driving dynamics and features innovative two-valve shock absorbers, similar to variable dampers familiar in motorsport.

The newcomer promises responsive, dynamic driving and assured road holding thanks to the combination of DCC Pro and 4MOTION, while the punchy 265 PS output delivers stronger acceleration whenever it is needed. This new Tiguan variant is capable of a top speed of 150 mph (where permitted) and can sprint from zero to 62 mph in as little as 5.9 seconds.

All the usual Tiguan benefits are also included, such as a spacious 652-litre boot, premium interior, Volkswagen’s latest infotainment software and digital cockpit, an impressively low drag coefficient of 0.28 Cd and useful driver assistance features – including hill start assist and hill descent control.

The Tiguan is currently Volkswagen’s best-selling model worldwide and its most popular SUV to date, with global sales exceeding 7.5 million. Just over 25,000 were registered in the UK in 2023 (excluding the seven-seat Tiguan Allspace).

The Tiguan R-Line 2.0 TSI 265 PS can be ordered through any Volkswagen UK Retailer from 15 August, priced at £47,540 (on-the-road recommended retail price, including VAT).
