Subaru UK is proud to be supporting the armed forces motorsport charity, Mission Motorsport, as a sponsor at the Race for Remembrance (RoR) this weekend.

Subaru UK has also lent support to one of the competing teams, made up of veterans with service-related injuries. The team will be racing in a previously written-off Subaru BRZ sports car, which has been fully rebuilt and adapted to be operated using hand controls.

Mission Motorsport, which operates under the motto “Race, Retrain, Recover”, supports the rehabilitation of veterans affected by military operations, using the power of motorsport to help rebuild lives.  In partnership with the Royal Foundation, the MoD and industry body SMMT (The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders) the charity runs the ‘Mission Automotive’ initiative that has helped thousands of veterans into new careers in the UK automotive industry.

In addition to sponsoring Class C in the race, Subaru UK has also lent a helping hand in transforming the crash-damaged Subaru BRZ coupe, carefully rebuilt and specially adapted, making it race-ready for veterans with service-related injuries to drive. The adaptions will enable the team of veterans to showcase their driving skills and resilience, competing alongside a grid of racing drivers.

Lorraine Bishton, Managing Director of Subaru UK, said: “It is a great honour for Subaru UK to support Mission Motorsport and its annual Race of Remembrance. Always an inspiring occasion, the Race of Remembrance is an event that we at Subaru UK care deeply about. We’re thrilled to have contributed to helping the team with the preparation and revival of its Subaru BRZ, giving it an exciting second life as a track car. We support Mission Motorsport, its ethos and the inspirational work they do with the armed forces community. It’s been a pleasure working with the team to get the car ready, and we wish them every success on track this weekend.”

James Cameron, CEO of Mission Motorsport commented “We are thrilled to unveil this adaptive race car in our take on an iconic livery for this year’s Race of Remembrance. This race car, once written off represents much more than just engineering; it’s a testament to the resilience, adaptability, and the incredible talents within our armed forces community. Our mission has always been to empower veterans and service leavers through motorsport, providing a space to rediscover purpose and camaraderie. This project embodies that mission and highlights how we’re pushing the boundaries to create new opportunities for all those involved – regardless of disability. We can’t wait to see it on track and to celebrate the collective effort that made it possible.”

As part of Subaru’s commitment to performance and inclusion, the Subaru BRZ has been equipped with a range of parts and components, including a brand-new ECU and rear differential, tailored to the demands of endurance racing. The BRZ now stands as a symbol of Subaru’s belief in breaking down barriers, and empowering veterans with disabilities to take on RoR’s challenging track on equal terms.
