Mitsubishi Motors to Expand Product Line in North America With Second New Model

Mitsubishi off-road model and BEV debut
Mitsubishi off-road model and BEV debut

Supporting the May 7, 2025, announcement that Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) will bring an all-new battery-electric vehicle (BEV) to the North American market, the company today confirmed an additional vehicle – an off-road-focused variant of the Outlander SUV – also will join the lineup in the company’s Fiscal Year 2026, which runs April 1, 2026-March 31, 2027.

The brand launched its North American business roadmap to its dealer partners, dubbed Momentum 2030, in May of last year, and has been working hard to bring the future plan to reality, starting with the recent debut of the new 2025 Outlander SUV. Today’s announcement is further proof of the strength of that plan.

After the May 7 BEV announcement, today’s announcement confirms the second addition to the lineup will be an off-road-focused vehicle that reinforces the brand’s storied history in off-road and off-highway travel. MMNA recently debuted a Trail Edition package on Outlander, and this new model will build upon the graphic features on that vehicle by adding off-road-specific bodywork, off-road-focused drive modes and performance upgrades, and unique interior styling with specific materials. This vehicle will take the company’s legendary Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) all-wheel drive system3, honed from Mitsubishi Motors’ 12 wins on the legendary Dakar Rally and on the muddy tracks of the World Rally Championship, to the next level, allowing families to explore further beyond where the pavement ends.

More details, including naming, imagery, technical specifications, pricing and on-sale timing will be the subject of future announcements.

“Two exciting announcements to discuss upcoming vehicle launches proves the strength of our Momentum 2030 business plan, plus the hard work and commitment from our colleagues at Mitsubishi Motors Corporation in Japan and our dealer partners across the U.S.” said Mark Chaffin, MMNA’s president and CEO. “When we announced our Momentum 2030 plan publicly, we set ambitious goals for ourselves. The plan is underway right now, with the new 2025 Outlander already on sale, with an updated Outlander Plug-in Hybrid coming soon, the debut of a new mild-hybrid powertrain in the 2026 Outlander and with today’s announcements of two more all-new vehicles coming in fiscal year 2026. This is just the beginning, with more new vehicles and more news coming.”

Chaffin continued, “There has never been a better time to consider a new Mitsubishi vehicle. We are proud to partner with nearly 330 Mitsubishi Motors dealer partners across the U.S. who are committed to customer satisfaction, to delivering a great vehicle at a fair price, and to building a long-term customer relationship. Our Momentum 2030 plan is going to build upon that with more dealers in more markets, and we’re already seeing interest from some of the largest dealer groups in the country to join us on our journey.”

The path to Mitsubishi Motors Momentum 2030 is defined by four key points:

  • A path to electrification
  • A path to a renewed and expanded product line-up that will strengthen Mitsubishi Motors in North America
  • A path to a modernized retail sales model
  • A path to network expansion and sales growth
